Que: Observed cycle times for a concrete finishing operation are given in Figure P4.5. What would you
estimate as the productivity of this system using MPDM? How much does each delay source
contribute to the loss in production? If you were in charge of this operation how would you
improve i

By using MPDM technique, we can measure, predict, and improve construction method productivity.
It was quite obvious that there were a large areas for work improvement in this process.
Ass seen from calculation, the final results for each delay source contribute to the loss in production are
listed below: Environtment 11,38% , Equipment 22,53 %, and Labor 8,58%
The calculation show the bigest delay of 22,53% in equipment area. With this information, it was
suggested to contractor that the following items, if corrected could raise the productivity method:
- Have all equipment for this finishing concrete operating (assume floor concrete operating)
stand by before concrete step in initial setting. The equipment for this operation are trowel
for finishing concrete floor and treated with a chemical densifier (to fill in the holes/pores).
- Add extra trowel for improve productivity
Assume that those suggestion can be done, so the productivity should increase from 0-22,53%, choose
5% delay remain. In the end, the new overall method productivity would be:

Overall method productivity = ideal productivity(1-EEN-EEQ-ELA)

=32.90 unit/hr
If production unit 1 square that have total area 1m2 , then overall method productivity improve from:
Overall method productivity 25.21 m2/hr
to
Overall method productivity 32.9 m2/hr
Que: The observed cycle times for a brick placement operation are given below. Using MPDM
a. Calculate the ideal, overall, and method productivitiesof this operation.
b. Compute the relative severity and expected percent of delay for each of three types of
delays given in this process
