To prepare a model of artificial geostationary

Satellite or rocket launching centre.

1
Theory
The human made body which revolves around earth
is called the artificial satellite. The centripetal force
needed for revolving of satellite around the earth in
the circular path is obtained from the gravitational
force of attraction on the satellite by earth. The
satellite which revolve very high near the earths
surface has orbital speed nearly 8 km/second. To
launch a satellite in an orbit, multistage rockets are
used, the last section of which leaves the satellite
automatically in horizontal direction with the
required orbital speed so that it may revolve in
circular orbit around the earth with earth at its
center. The diagram below shows the launching of
an artificial satellite.

3
Method
Collect the details such as name of satellite, its place
of launching of artificial satellite launched from
India so far from the different science magazines or
text books available in your school library or houses
and write it in the table given on next pages. Also
collect the photographs of different artificial
satellites.
