Name(s):
‘We are going to explore the relationship between two variables. Choose two variables that you
would like to analyze the relationship between. For example, you could look at the relationship
between home value and number of bedrooms or you may be interested in secing if a father's
height is correlated with their child's height. For each individual in your sample, you will need
measurements on both variables. Be sure to choose two quantitative variables. This data can be
acquired online or from individuals in the class. No sensitive information is allowed. Do not ask
for weight, test scores, GPA, ete.
1. What variables will you be exploring? Identify which variable is the explanatory and which
is the response.

2. What is your initial intuition? Do you think the variables are correlated? If so, do you think
there will be a strong/weak, positive/negative correlation?

3. Acquire data for ten individuals. List your explanatory variable in the first, column and the
response in the second.

5. Determine the correlation coefficient and compare it to the critical value. What conclusions
can you make? Are the variables correlated? If so, is there a strong/weak, positive/negative
correlation?
