Science is often viewed as encyclopedia of


discoveries and technological achievement.
SCIENCE AS INQUIRY
Science as inquiry is divided into abilities:

A. Children need for sound scientific inquiry.

B. Understandings they should have about scientific inquiry.

To engage students in inquiry, it requires five essential functions:

1. Assist in the development of understanding the scientific concepts.

2. Help and direct students know how we know in science.

3. Develop an understanding of the nature of science.

4. Develop necessary skills to become independent inquiries about the natural world.

5. Develop disposition to use the skills, abilities and habits of mind associated with the science.
SCIENCE PROCESS SKILLS
Basic Process Skills:

Observing: using the five senses to gather information.

Comparing: Identify similarities and dierences in real objects.

Measuring: quantifying observation by numbers,counting,distance..etc.

Classifying: making groups and sorting real objects.

Communicating: describing phenomena.

Intermediate process skills:

Inferring: making conclusions.

Predicting: deciding in advance what might happen.

Advanced process skills:

Hypothesizing: statement about the relationship between two variables.

Defining and Controlling Variables: determining which variable in an investigation shout be studied or should be controlled to
make an experiment.
