What is a short film?

A short film is a moving picture that isnt necessarily long enough to be

considered as a featured film (full length film). They can be made to promote,
communicate and reach out to a certain target audience. Motion Picture Arts and
Sciences define a short film as an original motion picture that has a running
time of 40 minutes or less, including all credits.

Upcoming directors are known to create short films to promote the product they
are going to release, to get the word out in order for their film to blow up after
release. They are uploaded to YouTube in hope of recognition and eventually
word of mouth, which means that more and more people will hear about it, and
then be able to increase the amount of views resulting in a high popularity scale.
They also enter competitions, again in hope of people noticing their work of art.

Also, short films are made to communicate, promote or to send a specific

message out to its target audience. This could be to educate or to inform the
viewers on the aspects or certain topics included within the short film. An
example of this is Dear Dad, a short drama film about a young girl and her
journey through life as a young woman. The film aims to portray a message
about anti-bullying and the general perception of young girls in society,
especially the ways in which men view them as sexual objects.

Our film fits the specifications of a short film, as its duration is 5 minutes, which
is not enough to be a featured film. Also it has a concise narrative that finishes at
the end of the film. Furthermore, it is a low budget film that was produced by an
independent company, which is common in short films.
