Dear SG,
I appreciate the opportunity that was given so I could attend the conference about lean production. The
conference appears to be very useful in our day to day operation which requires a lot of waste elimination.
(Author n.d.)
Lean principle is all about eliminating waste that is non-essential to our work environment. Although the
waste mentioned in the conference is geared more towards manufacturing,(Jacobson 2017) I think it can benefit
us as it can also be applied in our environment where taking calls are crucial. I understand that it is impossible
to completely eliminate those processes that we have in our working environment, howeverI would like to take
the opportunity to share the things that I have learnt from the conference that I had been to.
The presentation that I would bring forward to the crowd would be the reduction of unnecessary motion
such as walking over to Level 2 Technical Leads which causes call wait in our all our call queues as well as
other wastes that is required to eliminate from our environment which poses a negative impact to daily
operations. Apart from that I will also be sharing the improvement plan by implementing lean in our
environment, improvement is also part of the lean process as the improvement process is a never-ending cycle
and it is also known as kaizen which is regarded as improvement in the Japanese Language.(Chandra 2013)
The reason why I think this sharing of the knowledge I have obtained from the conference is going to
interest our peers because it prioritizes the respect of the workforce we have, which is a valuable asset at our
disposal and it is important to make them feel respected and work effort recognized. Apart from that, kaizen
also promotes continuous improvement in our ever fast changing working environment. Kaizen is actually a
very important mindset to be instilled into all of us in order to improve the environment regardless whether it is
surely benefit us all in many ways. I hope to hear from you soon in order to facilitate the presentation.

Question 2
In todays society, we human beings are producing moregarbage that it becomes a crisis in a global
scale. Why do you think this is happening? Is there an end to this bad trending that is turning worse? What can
we do to reduce amount of garbage produced every day? Will there be light at the end of the tunnel? Are we
able to accommodate the waste that is being produced by factories and other people?
It has become a major problem in a lot of countries in the world where the increasing waste produced by
manufacturing sector as well as other household garbage over the past decade.(THUHUYEN2611 2015)It has
been a question what have caused this issue and what improvements can be done in order to rectify
thecondition. In this speech I will be discussing and consider numerous causes of the increasing garbage
produced and state the possible solutions to effectively tackle the issue we are currently facing.
The current lifestyle the modern people are living with has significantly contributed in producing the
vastly increasing amount of garbage daily. This can be described using another angle where the people living in
the society are consuming more than an individual should consume and the mass-consumption which means the
usage of a single individual increased significantly and creates more garbage than ever. For example, the easily
available convenience store provides plastic bag for each and every sale they make. (Vanshi 2016)
Apart from the increasing of consumption per individual, the exponentially increased population also
Some of the countries in the world is also running out of space to deal with the garbage produced and more
lands are being secured for landfill to deal with the increasing waste produced daily.
In order to rectify this issue that is increasingly becoming worse, collective actions has to be done and is
required from every individual. First and foremost, every individual can reduce the usage of plastic bags for
things they purchase off the shelves in supermarkets. By doing this, the usage of plastic bags can be reduced
drastically. For example, the Penang state government have actually put in place no plastic everyday motion in
In order to improve the situation more, I think that bringing your own lunch boxes to purchase food can also
help in reducing garbage production as one does not need to purchase their food in a single use lunchbox that
essentially is not environmental friendly as it will require a third party to recycle them. This is a good solution
to bring the motion to a higher ground as the state government is also supporting the motion which will
Additionally, the enforcement of the usage of reusable materials such as paper bags can also help decrease
Not excessively cooking or purchasing the portion of food can also help reducing food wastage which
also ultimately means reducing the garbage production. Imagine each house discarding one kilogramme of food
daily, we will soon be surrounded by food waste despite the food discarded are actually bio-degradable.
Discarding food will also increase the usage of plastic garbage bags as most of them are wet garbage that drips,
there will also be a chain reaction where one mops the floor using detergent which also damages the
Another reason why the garbage problem is becoming more worrisome is due to the land we are making
into landfills to dispose of rubbish. Securing more land for this purpose actually destroys the ecosystem because
we will need to claim more land which essentially is the place where all other living beings live in.
As discussed above, two of the most critical causes of this waste material problem are the increased
consumption per individual and the greed of people causes unnecessary waste.
In conclusion, individuals, businesses and the government can share the effort to reduce the amount of
waste produced daily which will result in saving the earth. With all the goodwill and efforts done by the society,
our offspring will be living in a better world with a well- preserved environment.
Thank you!
