Multimedia Tools Lesson Idea
Lesson idea implementation: As I address the standards, I will be responsible for giving the students the
content they need to know. The students will be responsible for taking the content they have acquired and
applying it in order to create a video expounding upon the information they know. This project will be
introduced using a Student Response Tool. I will display a ClassFlow slide where students can doodle a picture
of what they see when they think of the word moon. This lesson plan will take a little over a month to
complete because I want the students to observe the moon every night with their parents. I also want the
students to be able to notice the difference in the way the moon changes phases. Student learning will be
assessed with another ClassFlow doodle response. Students should have a different depiction of what the
moon can look like after we have observed all of the moon phases. I can also assess student learning by giving
a paper and pencil test and ask the students to shade circles based on the name of the moon phase.
The final product used to inform students of their learning will be used to demonstrate understanding to
fellow students or future students who have not learned about phases of the moon. As a teacher, I will
extend student learning to a higher learning level by extending the activity beyond the classroom. I can try to
set up a video call from someone at NASA or even a trip to a planetarium museum. I will conclude the lesson
with certificates stating that the students are now experts at determining moon phases to send home to their
parents. Finally, I will provide feedback to students about their work directly on their paper and pencil test; I
can also pull students aside one by one to discuss their before and after ClassFlow doodles.
Importance of technology: Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical to this project because without it, the
project would not have been as effective. Incorporating both still images, full-motion videos, and music allows
students to display a variety of resources to help someone learn. Still images provide a visual for visual

learners. The full-motion video provides sound and pictures for both auditory and visual learners. Telescopes
are also another type of technology that may be used in this learning experience as well.
Inspiration (optional): If you used existing multimedia projects as a model for your project (Whether in part
or whole), include the URL(s) so we can visit. Explain what concepts you borrowed from others.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Even though using multimedia tools can enhance student learning,
there are some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and student privacy that could arise while
implementing this learning experience. Students would be conducting an open search for images and videos
on the internet. The video can also be shared with whomever the student selects. In order to combat some of
these possible issues, as the teacher, I can assign students specific websites that I know comply with my
districts policies. These websites would contain all the information they would need for their video, and it
would not violate copyright, student privacy, or Internet safety laws. The links would have access to approved
images and videos as well. To alleviate any fears parents or my administrators would have, I could send an
email informing all of them about the upcoming lesson and the precautions I am taking in order to minimize
the potential risk. If any of the have questions, they can contact me through my work email and inform me
whether or not they want their child to partake in that portion of the lesson. If not, I would create time where
those students could go to the library and use encyclopedias or other non-fiction books for their research.
