ABSTRACT

One of the most common effects of stroke patients is weakness on one side of the
body affected by a stroke, this weakness can lead to imbalances and difficulties when
walking due to disruption of muscle strength. Early rehabilitation is needed to reduce
the disadvantages that occur by way of range of motion exercise activity after acute
stroke. The aim of the research is to describe the muscle strength after Range Of
Motion (ROM) activity in post-stroke elderly in Social Protection Center Tresna
Wredha Ciparay Bandung. The research method used in this research is Descriptive
Quantitative research. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling with 10
respondents. Observation of Range Of Motion (ROM) activity for 7 days conducted
over 2 times a day, those are morning and afternoon. The evaluation of the study
conducted after 7 days to assess the muscle strength. The results of the researche
shows that in the upper right part of the upper limbs most respondents had muscle
strength to move and resist resistance with full strength of 6 people (60%), On the left
side of the upper extremity most of the respondents have muscle strength can move
and resist resistance with full strength of 7 people (70%). In the lower right extremity
most of the respondents have muscle strength can move and resist resistance with full
strength of 7 people (70%), Then on the left side of the lower extremity almost all
respondents have muscle strength can move and resist resistance with full strength
that is 9 people (90%). So it can be concluded that almost all post-stroke elderly have
muscle strength can move and resist resistance with full force, and a small part have
muscle strength can move against prisoner but still weak. The recommendations of
this research is that Range Of Motion (ROM) exercise activity can be applied
consistently in post-stroke elderly to increase the muscle strength.
