Reflections on Observation Task 1: Differentiating Centers

Read the questions below and write your answers

1. What are classroom learning centers?

In Kg 2- A classroom the centers look different than other class which has different
corner for each subject. For example, in other class, I observed several areas like math,
science, role- play area and other while in Kg2-A they consider the group tables as areas
for all subjects. For example, if they have math lesson the teacher makes a table look like
math area by provided materials for math activity and let children do it on their table. In
my view, I think if they have different areas in class will be better because each center
will provide equipment that supports the topic of lesson and also, children will not get
bored because they will morning in different areas and play with several equipments.

2. What is the purpose of classroom learning centers?

I believe that how important is learning centers for the children because it supports
children to develop their fundamental skills. For example, they will encourage social and
community skill when teacher gives them opportunity to talk, discuss, share ideas and
collaborate. Moreover, they will support their fine and motor skills when the teacher
prepares hand-on experiment to assist children in using their hand, finger, and arm.

3. What is the role of the students while engaged during learning

centers?

The roles of children in the center are applying the activities, thinking, exploring, develop
their social, physical, cognitive skills, play with equipments, do hands-on activities and
experiential learning events, they set clear expectations also, help children build their
understanding by respond with materials.

4. What is the role of the teacher as the students are engaged during
learning centers?
The roles of teacher is engaging children while they in centers, provide equipment for
activities, preparer activities, observe and evaluate children abilities and understanding,
encourage children with social skills by request children to work in groups also, motivate
children to be independent learning by give them opportunity to think, explore and use
their feedback to build new meaning.

5. Do you feel it is important to offer tasks that are developmentally

appropriate for all student ability levels? Why / Why not?

Yes, I think its necessary that teacher prepare different tasks for all students abilities because
each child in the class has different skills form another child. For example, some children are in
mastery level, while other in emergency lever it depends on child, that why teacher should plan
the activities for different student in class.
