Sacred Heart Catholic School

Dear Families,
Be Watchful. Be ready. It is the time of year when everything begins to sparkle. The frost on
the ground, the lights in the trees, the alter at church and even the clothes people wear shine
with a hope of something special. It is easy to see the extra thought people are putting into
their lives. This time of year, we remember what it is like to be a child again and to find Joy in the little things
like making cookies or walking in a parade. Now that our surroundings have our attention, what do we do with
our heightened senses?
It is the beginning of advent and we are being called to pray and to wait. The waiting can be so hard for chil-
dren. The advent wreath is the perfect way to help us focus. This Sunday we start our 4 week journey in Advent.
Each candle in the wreath represents 1,000 years of waiting; from Adam and Eve to the birth of Jesus.
The wreath is always a circle and made of evergreens. This reminds us that the world has no end. The greens
depict the immorality of the soul and the everlasting life found in Christ.
I have attached the full article on advent The History of Advent from The Catholic Education Resource Center
as a guide to this beautiful time of year.
Lets have an advent full of hope, calm understanding and everlasting Joy! God Bless

News from the 3rd/4th Grade

This week we performed a Reader's Theatre play for
the first and second graders. The play was about
Joseph, the son of Jacob from the Old Testament,
who is known for having a bright, wonderful coat
and being able to interpret dreams. The students
did a great job being expressive with their parts.
The play also helped them learn details about the
incredible life of Joseph.

We are also learning a song about the Ten Plagues

of Egypt that is helping us remember the order of
the plagues. See if your child can sing it for you.
Finally, for your information, there is a social stud-
ies test on Thursday, Dec. 7 over chapter 2. A re-
view sheet has gone home.
