Model Essay
I stood there, tears streamed down my cheeks when I
heard the news. My father was diagnosed with a serious
cancer and I hoped that it was a dream. I tried to pinch my
arms and the pain told me that it was truth. I cried my heart
out. I felt my world going to pieces. Shock struck me like a
thunderbolt. I could not afford to lose him. I went out the
consultation room and sat quietly on the beach. I made
several calls to all the relatives and figured out some ways
to help him. Looking at my fathers face, I kept my fingers
crossed and hoped that he would finally get well. I wished
that miracle could happen on me. I started to walk down
memory lane.
I was born in a well-off family . My mother died
because of maternal dystocia when she gave birth on
me. Since then, my father and I depended on each other for
survival . We shared our life together despite all
the ups and downs. He worked at a noodle stall. Everyday,
he had to wake up very early and prepared the ingredients.
Sometimes, the weather was scorching hot but he never
skip any single day to make ends meet. I respect him from
my heart and he also erected me an exemplary . No
matter how hard we are, we have to lend helping hands to
someone needs. He said.

Saturday morning dawned bright and easy. The day we

were looking forward to have. As usual, I helped my father
at the stall. There were a lot of customers during that peak
hours. Some workers were having their Wan Tan Mee
during their lunch hour while some students had just
dismissed from school. Dont run! How dare you steal my
medicine A woman screamed loudly. Curiosity killed the
cat as I walked out and take a peek. A lady who worked in a
pharmacist was shouting at a little boy.
Smelling something fishy, my father turned off the gas
stove and took a glance at the street. Looking at the
painkillers in his hand, my father enquired him whom the
medicine for. The boy answered with tears in his eyes, My
mom is sick. I was told by my father to give a veggie soup
for the boy. My father paid for the painkillers. Without
expressing his gratitude, the boy quickly ran away. From
that day onwards, the boy always lingered around/paced up
and down at the stall. My father did not ask more and
cooked the boy noodles for free. Sometimes, my father
would pack him a bag of noodle for the boys mother. It
lasted for 3 months and the boy did not make his
appearance anymore.
However, life was not always sunshine and rainbows. On
one fateful day, my father fainted when he was preparing
food for a beggar . He was whisked away by an

ambulance within seconds. I waited anxiously outside the

Intensive Care Unit for long minutes. All sorts of terrible
thoughts came up to torment me. I am sorry to inform you
that your father is diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctor
came out and said apologetically. My father had to undergo
an operation as soon as possible. However, the
medical expenses was an astronomical figure. I was
forced to sell the stall and contacted my relatives to help
with the medical expenses. But the funds raised was far
distance from the large sum of amount.

I had to save him by hook or by crook as my father was

the only family I have in the world. I faced down on
and finally dozed off/fell asleep . Suddenly, I heard
some footsteps and I woke up instantly. I was astonished to
see a note beside me. The note appeared with the invoice
and there were some words written on it. All expenses
paid 30 years ago with 3 packs of painkillers and a bag of
veggie soup. Thinking of the boy whom my father helped
30 years ago, tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably. I
was deeply touched by the kindness. I was glad that my
father could be saved.

It dawned on me that the boy who received my fathers

kindness became a doctor after 30 years. He cleared all my

fathers expenses. He also conducted a successful surgery

for my father. When my father woke up, he was moved to
tears. Thank you for saving my life, doctor. It is you who
saved my life 30 years ago. A simple act of kindness makes
an endless ripple.
