PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
DC DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT SERVICES (DOES), OFFICE OF YOUTH PROGRAMS, WASHINGTON, DC
Director, Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute (MBYLI) May 2012 Present
Responsible for the implementation of MBYLI, a youth leadership program that provides 300 DC youth ages 14-24 with year-round
leadership development and goal planning activities throughout the school year and summer with an annual operating budget of
$1M. Responsible for the management and professional development of 6 program coordinators and 15 support staff, plus the hiring
and management of 65 seasonal facilitators/trainers. Responsible for overseeing all event planning and implementation,
procurement of space, equipment, and supplies, program evaluation and performance management, and communications with youth,
parents, and external/internal stakeholders. Responsible for coordinating the citys youth government program, which includes
holding an annual citywide election for DCs Youth Mayors and Youth Councilmembers. Promoted to Director within one year of
service as Senior Program Development Specialist.
Key Contributions:
Supported more than 1,500 youth leaders to successfully complete the program, maintaining a 100% high school graduation
rate and 95%+ college acceptance rate for 4 consecutive years.
Launched the Districts Global Youth Workforce initiative through a partnership with the US State Department and Global
Kids, Inc., increasing international awareness for 60 youth per year and sending a team of 30 DC youth to the Republic of South
Africa each summer.
Established a calendar of Youth Town Hall events in partnership with the Executive Office of the Mayor, which allows youth
across the city to communicate with city leadership on local public policy issues affecting them.
Commissioned a yearlong programmatic process evaluation with an independent evaluator to support program improvement
and capture data to demonstrate impact.
