Warm-up and Objective Discussion

Quiz: ask class if they can name the 7 original wonders of the world
Ask class if they knew this initiative to choose 7 new world wonders
Explain this initiative
Explain students this clip describes the 7 new world wonders and their history. When
working in tourism & travel, students will also need to explain places of interest and
landmarks, especially when working as a guide.

Instruct and Model R W L S

Explain students to listen carefully and to focus on the main points, for instance the
year of construction of a certain world wonder.
Explain students to distill the most important information.
Advise students to take notes.
Advise students to silently pronounce the spoken text while listening

Guided Practice R W L S

Teacher-guided discussion of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro: I will
ask some questions and have the students answer them. Discussion is permitted.
Classical discussion: teacher will ask the 1st student his/her favorite world wonder.
Other students will ask questions why this is his/her favorite and explain if/why they
agree/disagree and so on.

Independent Practice R W L S

In pairs, students will ask each other questions about Christ the Redeemer and give
answers using the information from the Youtube audio fragment. Students switch roles
after having asked 2 questions
Assessment R W L S

Students will pitch one of the new world wonders (not Christ the Redeemer) in front of
the class in about 1 minute.
