ELIDA — Tom Thomas’s crew won the Western Buckeye League boys
soccer crown in 2009 and finished 12-3-2.
He expects another solid campaign in 2010 to defend that trophy.
However, one those who is not back is goalkeeper Brandon Good, a
3-year starter.
Also gone from a year ago is third-year starter Dustin Turner (defender)
and Tyler Burnett (midfielder).
This year’s starting lineup will be a senior-dominated group.
The crew should be strong on the defensive end thanks to fourth-year
lettermen like Cory Stewart (defender) and Matt Thompson (defender).
A strong midfield — led by fourth-year men Cody Sanderson and Jared
Stump and veteran midfielder/forward Ryan Musgrave — should allow the
new keeper — Drew Laing — and other newcomers to grow into the role.
“We return a solid core of players from last year’s Western Buckeye
League championship team. The player that will step in for last year’s
seniors are more than capable and are ready for the challenge,” Thomas
added. “Our objective is to hopefully compete for another WBL champion-
ship and continue to progress as a team throughout the season. We gave
high expectations for this year’s team and with that comes a target on our
backs.”
