LABORATORY ACTIVITY NO. 2

MEASURING, CUTTING AND JOINING PIPES

OBJECTIVE:
1. To measure different types of pipes.
2. To cut different types of pipes.
3. To join or connect different types of pipes.

INSTRUCTION:
1. Solve for the total number of pipes of the following figure.
2. Solve for the amount of solvent cement.

PROCEDURE:
1. Determine first the total length of the pipe in the figure by adding the engagement
lengths and the face to face distance.
2. Divide the total length of pipe by the effective length of one pipe. Available effective
lengths are 3.00m and 6.00m in selected diameters of the pipe. Effective lengths are
as follows:

Table 1 - Engagement Length of a 3 meters pipe (mm)

Size of Fittings 20 25 32 40 50 63 90 115
Length (mm) 12 20 25 31 37 50 75 100

Table 2 - Engagement Length of a 6 meters pipe

Telescopic Length Effective Length Weight per meter
Pipe Size in mm
in cm in meters in kg
63 7.5 5.925 0.75
75 12.0 5.880 1.51
90 13.0 5.880 1.90
100 14.0 5.870 2.85
150 16.0 5.840 6.03
225 18.0 5.820 11.87
280 20.5 5.795 18.52

3. Solve for the amount of solvent cement per joints. Every pipe has 2 joints. Table
shows how much solvent cement you will use based on the diameter of the pipe.

4. Compute for the wastage factor of pipe (maximum of 5% is allowed)
