DISCUSSION:

When planning the design and construction of a building, architects and engineers
must first consider the existing conditions of the site. Most often, the given site is not level and
must be modified before any construction can begin. So, the cut and fill process is typically
one of the first construction processes to take place on a site. Through this practical activities,
plot contour and calculate volumes for earthwork on a piece of land in Bandar Seri Alam is
determined. A contouring survey has been done in order to estimate the cut and fill for the
earthwork. By forming an effective teamwork, we can communicate effectively through
laboratory reports and oral communication. Also, the use of critical thinking in solving problems
related to survey data.
The contour of particular sites (25m x 25m) using the grid method with the square of
5m x 5m size has been set up. The level instrument has been set up at the centre which it can
see as many staff as it can. The staff man is placed at every 5m. Based on Table 1, the every
sight reading is determined. The grid point is decided and the mod factor is calculated.
Based on the result, the benchmark value is given which is 108.700m. The reduced
level is calculated by using rise and fall method. Also, the result have been checked by using
the arithmetic check. Furthermore, the contour line has been set up at 0.5m interval. Figure 1
showed the longitudinal and cross sectional profile with suitable scale is produced. The
propose level is given which is 106.00m. Based on the calculation, the weight factor is
determined. Next, the volume of cutting and exported soil is calculated. There is no volume of
filling because the practical is made at hill, so only the volume of cutting is determined.
