Re: Criminal Patrol Highway Interdiction conducted on November 20, 21 and 22

Sheriff,
On November 20, 21 and 22 Deputies and Detectives with the Fayette County Sheriff's
Office, Pickaway County Sheriff's Office, Ross County Sheriff's Office, US 23 Major
Crimes Task Force, B.C.I. (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) the Ohio State Highway
Patrol, Circleville Police and Washington Court House Police conducted criminal patrol
highway interdiction between the hours of 0900 to 1700 in their respective jurisdictions
in an collaborative effort to intercept illegal narcotics being transported by vehicles on
highways and destined for distribution in their communities. This interdiction effort was
also intended to promote the safety of motorists during their preholiday travels by
enforcing traffic laws on Interstates, highways and streets.
The focus of the 3 day interdiction was on highways (Interstate 71, U.S. Rt35, U.S. Rt
23, S. R. 104) which are known conduits for illegal drugs being transported for
distribution into the communities. Targeted enforcement efforts were also conducted on
known or suspected locations in each jurisdiction for illegal narcoties trafficking.

This combined enforcement effort was a success by any measure. The partnering of
officers from different agencies allowed important friendships to be formed and
information and investigative tactics to be shared and learned. I am planning on future
organized interdiction efforts in the future and hope that you, too, see the value of
continued collaborative enforcement efforts among agencies.
