    The Albany County Legislature unanimously adopted the 2018 budget. The $678 million budget funds existing programs and workers while planning for the future. It is the fifth consecutive budget under the state's tax cap and was passed unanimously for the second year in a row. The budget includes $250,000 for the Albany County Land Bank Corp, bringing the county's total commitment to $2 million. The legislature and county executive worked together on the budget which protects taxpayers and vital services.

    CountyBudgetfor2018thatfundsexistingprogramsandworkers,whileplanningforthefuture.

    Overthepastsixweeks,Legislatorsrevieweda$678millionbudgetsubmittedbyCountyExecutive
    DanielP.McCoy,andmademinorchangestotheplanwithoutincreasingitsbottomline.Theadopted
    2018BudgetmarksthefifthconsecutiveyearthatAlbanyCountysbudgetcameinundertheNewYork
    Staterecommendedtaxcap,andthesecondyearconsecutiveyearthattheentireLegislaturevotedforit.

    Forthesecondtimeinarow,weworkedtogetherasabipartisanteamtopassthebudgetunanimously,
    MajorityLeaderFrankCommissosaid.Thathasnthappenedinmemory,ifever.

    Inadditiontofundingallservices,theAlbanyCounty2018Budgetcontains$250,000fortheAlbany
    CountyLandBankCorp.,bringingthecountystotalcommitmenttothenonprofitagencyto$2million.

    IwouldliketothankAlbanyCountyExecutiveDanielP.McCoy,AuditandFinanceCommittee
    ChairmanGaryDomalewicz,ourrespectivestaffsandLegislatorswhoworkedmanyhoursgoingoverthe
    budget,LegislatureChairmanSeanE.Wardsaid.Intheend,wehaveaverysolidbudgetthatprotects
    taxpayersandthevitalservicesAlbanyCountyprovides.

    Duringthebudgetreviewprocess,alllegislatorswereinvitedtoattendbudgetmeetingstoprovideinput.
    TheLegislaturevideotapedthemeetings,archivedvideosofcommitteemeetingsonitswebsite,and
    livestreamedtwopublichearingsonthebudget.TheLegislaturealsoposteditsproposedadditionsand
    deletionstotheCountyexecutivesbudgetonitswebsiteandsocialmediabeforeconsideringthem.

    Wevehadprobablythemostopenandtransparentbudgetprocessinthestate,Domalewicztold
    Legislatorspriortotheunanimousvote.
