INTRODUCTION
Introduction
Established in 2011, Claims Class is owned and operated
by Hewitt Construction Consultancy.

Claims Class provides construction claims training to


those wishing to progress in their career as claims
practitioners and to employees of companies who wish
to ensure that claims are properly dealt with and
managed.

Distance Learning Course
Overview Our purpose is to help students to achieve success and to join the
ranks of claims practitioners who have a high earning potential and
are in constant demand, even in times of recession. The course
places high importance on teaching the student how to deal
with claims in a hands-on and practical manner and does not rely
heavily on theoretical learning. To this end, the course is based
upon many real-life case studies for the student to study and
manage as if they were actually dealing with the claim.
Modules The course is presented through 7 modules:
1. Contract Administration
2. Types of Claim
3. Strategy, Claims Management and Preliminaries to the Claim
4. Cause and Effect
5. Delay Analysis and Entitlement
6. Responses and Determinations
7. Writing, Compilation and Presentation of a Claim

Tutor Students are supported by a tutor who is an experienced


claims practitioner and who is always available for support and
guidance throughout the course.

Study We appreciate that you are most likely balancing a full-time
work position with family life and everything else in between. To
Timeframes make sure the course is flexible, we allow students up to 60
days to complete each module. We also let you decide when
you wish to receive the next module so you are free to take a
gap in between if needed.
Course On completion of the course, graduates will have gained a
thorough understanding of construction claims and how to
Outcome confidently present or respond to them in an effective manner.
Graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion, signed by
the course developer and Principal of Hewitt Construction
Consultancy. The certificate will also detail the number of CPD
hours the graduate has been awarded.
Suited to The course is suitable for anyone who has a basic knowledge
of construction industry contracts and either wishes to gain an
in-depth practical understanding of claims, or wishes to
advance their career to the next level by becoming a claims
practitioner.

Accreditation The course is accredited by Quantity Surveyors International
(QSI) and endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Civil
Engineering Surveyors (CICES). We are also starting the process
to become recognised as Registered Education Provider and
hope to acquire this status towards the end of 2013.

2. FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Construction (The Red

Construction Claims 2-Day
Intensive Training Course
Overview Construction professionals who have a good understanding of the
science of claims are valuable assets to their employers because they
can increase the profitability of projects. The course is designed to
provide a foundation for the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare,
present, respond to and manage claims in an effective and professional
manner.

Modules The course is presented through 6 modules which include:


1. Contract Administration
2. Types of Claim
3. Delay Analysis
4. The Essential Elements to a Successful Claim
5. Compilation and Presentation of Claims and Responses
6. Responses, Determinations and Disputes

Each module concludes with a case study which the delegates are
required to study in groups and present their findings to the class for
discussion. Delegates may optionally complete an assignment within 30
days of the course date and submit it for assessment.

Presenter Andy Hewitt, course developer and Principal at Hewitt Construction
Consultancy presents all courses. Andy is sometimes joined by other
industry experts, depending on the availability and the course location.

Course On completion of the course, delegates will have gained an important


foundation and understanding of construction claims and how to

receive a signed Certificate of Attendance which will note the number
of CPD hours the graduate has been awarded. Delegates who choose
to complete the optional assignment will also receive a second
certificate with additional CPD hours.

ACCREDITATION
Claims Class Accreditation
Quantity Surveyors International is the professional body for
those specialising in the financial aspects of construction and
engineering. It is a non-profit making organisation and truly
international in its operations, with members located across the
globe.

The objective of the QSi is to support and protect the


character, status and interest of the profession of Quantity
Surveying and it is the only professional body that solely caters
to Quantity Surveyors.

ICES prides itself on its achievement as an internationally renowned
centre of excellence in the art and science of civil engineering
surveying to serve the public and satisfy the needs of the construction
industry throughout the world. The Chartered Institution of Civil
Engineering Surveyors (ICES) began in 1969 as the Association of
Surveyors in Civil Engineering and was incorporated in 1972.

Since its conception, ICES has gone from strength to strength with an
ever-increasing membership and is now a registered educational
charity promoting the profession throughout the world. In 1992, ICES
became the first associated institution of the Institution of Civil
Engineers (ICE) and together formed two joint boards to provide and
disseminate surveying knowledge and expertise; the Geospatial
Engineering Board and Commercial Management Board. ICES also
has reciprocal membership agreements in place with the ICE.
