Finite Element Analysis

Assignment No. 3
Problem:
Evaluate deformation of a beam fixed at both ends and subjected to a time varying
load with maximum magnitude (Roll number) at its mid span. Compare results with
static structural analysis of assignment 1. Choose material, dimensions and units of
your choice.
Drawing Geometry:
We are basically covering this problem in number of steps. Using Transient structure as
principle module, we imported geometry directly from SolidWorks. Dimensions for
beam are 200x10x5 mm

Meshing The Beam:

Next step is the apply meshing on the beam. For this purpose, go to mesh command and
apply automatic method. Moving on, generate mesh to follow up mesh.
Applying Fixed Supports:
To fulfill requirements of fixed beam, we need to apply fixed support on both end. Go to
Transient Structure tab, click and choose fixed beam support. Now use face tool to select
both ends and fix it on both ends.
Applying Force:
Forces in transient structure behave differently due to time varying load. We have to
make time settings before we apply forces. Number of forces will be applied with final
one of magnitude 413 N. We are applying total of three forces of magnitude 113 N, 200
N, 100 N.
Total Deformation:
Now go to solution tab and apply total deformation.
Note that maximum and minimum deflection can be measured by plotting points.
