Housing as a need in India


As per 2011 census, the country had a population of 1 ,210.98 million, out of which, 377.10
million (31 .16%) lived in urban areas. During 20012011 , the urban population of India
grew at a CAGR of 2.8%, resulting in the increase in level of urbanization from 27.81 % to 31
.16%. This growing concentration of people in urban areas has led to problems of land
shortage, housing shortfall and congested transit and has also severely stressed the existing
basic amenities such as water, power and open spaces of the towns.

Assam is situated 'in the North-East region of India bordering seven States viz. Arunachal
Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and West Bengal and two
countries viz. Bangladesh and Bhutan. With a geographical area of 78,438 sq. kms, i.e., about
2.4 per cent of the country's total geographical area. Assam provides shelter to 2.2 per cent
population on of the Country. Most of the State's population on lives in the lush and verdant
valleys of its two major river systems in the twenty four districts of the Brahmaputra valley
and the three districts of the Barak valley.
