SURFACTANTS TYPES AND APPLICATION, Amines oxides

Neutral (slightly cationic in acid medium)

Incompatibility :

is obtained as an aqueous solution in concentrations of about 30%

Names : Maquat AO 12, 14, 16, 18

Amine oxides an be formulated with anionic, nonionic and

cationic products and are mildly
cationic under acidic conditions.
They are used in a wide variety
of cosmetic, household and
janitorial products for their foam
stabilizing and viscosity building
properties. The lower alkyl
distribution provide foam
boosting and stabilization. Those
of a higher molecular weight
provide definite softness and
conditioning feel. They develop
a wide range of viscosities with
or without the use of inorganic
builders. They are good wetting
agents in concentrated
electrolyte solutions.
Prepared by the oxidation of a fatty terti
ary amine with hydrogen peroxide.
They are weakly cationic on the acid side.
The alkyl amine oxides are stable in the
presence of sodium hypochlorite and are
excellent surfactants for bleach cleaners.
Not widely used in personal care.

Acts as a nonionic in alkaline systems and cationic in acid systems.

Sodium Hypochlorite and Hydrogen Peroxide stable
