EXPERIMENT NO 7

AIM: - To draw assembly block using the solidworks.

REQUIREMENT: - Software required-solidworks 2013

WORKING STEPS: -

1. Select New File from toolbar, a new dialog box will appear
2. Select Part option and press OK
3. Select FRONT PLANE after selecting the EXTRUDED BOSS option from Feature toolbar.
4. Select the CORNER RECTANGLE option from Sketch Toolbar and draw a rectangle from
origin.
5. Dimension can be added by selecting SMART DIMENSION option in sketch toolbar and
set value to 120.
6. In order To give thickness to the rectangle drawn, select the EXIT SKETCH option.
7. Then in the DIRECTION 1 select BLIND in the END CONDITION. Select depth to 30 and

click . (Fig. 7.1)


8. Now we have to sketch and dimension the Boss.
9. Select the front face of the model and select EXTRUDED BOSS option and click
NORMAL TO option from Standard Views Toolbar.
10. Draw a circle at the centre of the face of 70 diameter and dimension it using SMART
DIMENSION.
11. Select EXIT SKETCH option from Sketch Toolbar. Then click the TREMETRIC option
from Standard Views Toolbar.
12. Now in the PROPERTY MANAGER, under the DIRECTION 1, Select BLIND in END

CONDITION and set the depth to 25. Then click on . Fig 7.2
13. Select EXTRUDED CUT feature from the feature toolbar, select the front face of circular
boss and select NORMAL TO option.
14. Draw a circle at the centre of the boss and using SMART DIMENSION, give its dimension
as 50 diameter.
15. Now click on EXIT SKETCH option from Sketch Toolbar.
16. Click the TRIMETRIC option and in the PROPERTY MANAGER, under the DIRECTION
1, set the END CONDITION to THROUGH ALL.
17. Click on .
18. Now click FILLET option. Under the FILLET TYPE, select CONSTANT RADIUS.
19. Select the front face of the base. And under Items to fillet, Set RADIUS to 5 and Select
FULL PREVIEW. Also Select the four edges at the corner of the base. Fig 7.3

20. Click on .
21. Now again click on FILLET option and under the Items to fillet, set RADIUS to 1.5 and
then Right click on either edge of the boss and click on SELECT OTHER option. Then
select FACE OF THE BOSS from the pop-up list appeared.

22. Click on .
23. Next step is to create the shell. Select the ROTATE VIEW option from View Toolbar. Drag
the pointer to rotate the part so as to see its back. Select the back face. Select the SHELL
option from Features Toolbar. Under PARAMETERS, set THICKNESS to 2.

24. Click on .
25. Now click NEW from Standard Toolbar and open a new part.
26. Select the EXTRUDED BOSS option from Features Toolbar and select the FRONT plane.
27. Sketch a rectangle beginning at the origin. Give dimension 120mm X 120mm using
SMART DIMENSION.
28. Select EXIT SKETCH option from Sketch Toolbar. Under DIRECTION 1 set END
CONDITIONS to BLIND and set DEPTH to 90.

29. Click on .
30. Now Select FILLET option and select four edges after selecting HIDDEN LINES VISIBLE
option from View Toolbar. In the PROPERTY MANAGER, under Items to Fillet, set
RADIUS to 10.

31. Click on .
32. Now select the HIDDEN LINES REMOVED option from the View Toolbar.
33. Select the SHELL option from the Feature Toolbar. Select the front face of the model and
under PARAMETERS, set THICKNESS to 4. Fig 7.4

34. Click on .
35. Now select the front face of the thin wall. Select the EXTRUDED CUT option. Then select
the CONVERT ENTITIES option from Sketch Toolbar. Click on the front face again.
36. Now select the OFFSET ENTITIES option from Sketch Toolbar. Under the
PARAMETERS set OFFSET DISTANCE to 2 and select REVERSE to change the offset
direction. Fig 7.5

37. Click on .
38. Select the EXIT SKETCH option from Sketch Toolbar. Under DIRECTION 1, set DEPTH
to 20.

39. Click on .
40. Now to create the assembly, first of all click on NEW option on the Standard Toolbar. Then
click on ASSEMBLY and then click OK. Fig 7.6
41. Under the PART TO INSERT, select the previously two created parts and after placing

them on GRAPHICS AREA, click on .


42. Now click on the MATE option from Assembly Toolbar. Now select the top edge of first
part and outside edge of the top of second part. In the PROPERTY MANAGER, set
COINCIDENT as the mate type.

43. Click on .
44. Now select the rightmost face of one part, then select the corresponding face on other part.

Again set COINCIDENT as the mate type and click on .


45. Repeat steps 42 to 44, but this time select the top faces of both the parts.

46. Click on .
47. Assembly is made Fig 7.7.

plate is 10mm thick.
