Goal Setting Notes

Decisions on exercises, lifts, and other activities for your plan should be based on the follo
wing criteria:

1. Use the fitness score information to assist you in decision making as you
develop your Personal
Fitness Goal Setting Action Plan and your FITT Fitness Plan. Consider
whether youve indicated a
need to maintain or improve your level of fitness in each area.

2. Employ the S.M.A.R.T. principles of goal setting:

SpecificGive details that will help determine if youve accomplished your goals
(dont say, I want to
run longer; do say, I want to be able to run for 20 minutes without stopping.)

MeasureableGive a number or quantity that will allow you to know when youve
accomplished your
goal (ideas include number of minutes, amount of weight, etc.)

AttainableYou possess the ability to reach each goal; goals are realistic for
someone at your current
fitness level to aim for; work toward goals can be done in a sensible manner.

RewardingEach goal will bring you a sense of accomplishment; positive and

meaningful to you.

Time-
oriented or timely A definite amount of time has been allotted for each goal;
reasonable time period; includes month, day, and year for completion date of each goal.
