PREFACE
First of all , wed like to say thanks to Almighty God for helping us and give us
chance to finish this assignment time. And we would like to say thank you to Mr. Mangara
M. Tambunan as the lecturer that always teaches us and give much knowledge about English
Engineering.
This assignment is the one of English task that composed of Technology in Use. We
realized that this assignment is not perfect, but we hope it can be useful for the readers.

CHAPTER 1
A printer is a device that accepts text and graphic output from a computer and
transfers the information to paper, usually to standard size sheets of paper. Printers vary in
size, speed, sophistication, and cost. In general, more expensive printers are used for higher-
resolution color printing.
To print documents
Multifunction printers have many functions like copy, scan, print, fax, and etc.

CHAPTER 2
1. Millions of bytes (characters) of data stream into the printer from your computer.
2. An electronic circuit in the printer (effectively, a small computer in its own right) figures
out how to print this data so
it looks correct on the page.
5. At the same time, the circuit activates the laser to make it draw the image of the page onto
the drum. The laser beam doesn't actually move: it bounces off a moving mirror that scans it
over the drum. Where the laser beam hits the drum, it erases the positive charge that was
there and creates an area of negative charge instead. Gradually, an image of the entire page
builds up on the drum: where the page should be white, there are areas with a positive charge;
where the page should be black, there are areas of negative charge.
6. An ink roller touching the photoreceptor drum coats it with tiny particles of powdered ink
(toner). The toner has been given a positive electrical charge, so it sticks to the parts of the
photoreceptor drum that have a negative charge (remember that opposite electrical charges
2
attract in the same way that opposite poles of a magnet attract). No ink is attracted to the parts
of the drum that have a positive charge. An inked image of the page builds up on the drum.
7. A sheet of paper from a hopper on the other side of the printer feeds up toward the drum.
As it moves along, the paper is given a strong positive electrical charge by another corona
wire.
8. When the paper moves near the drum, its positive charge attracts the negatively charged
toner particles away from the drum. The image is transferred from the drum onto the paper
but, for the moment, the toner particles are just resting lightly on the paper's surface.
9. The inked paper passes through two hot rollers (the fuser unit). The heat and pressure from
the rollers fuse the toner particles permanently into the fibers of the paper.
10. The printout emerges from the side of the copier. Thanks to the fuser unit, the paper is
still warm. It's literally hot off the press!

CHAPTER 3
Convenience
One of the key advantages of printing out material is that it is convenient. If you need
to mark it up or make notes on it, it is easy to do. Most printed documents are lighter and,
when folded, smaller than a tablet or notebook computer. They are also easily replaced, so
losing them or getting them wet isn't a major concern.
Ease of Reading
For many people, printed documents remain easier to read. The text on a printed
document is, as of 2012, sharper than the sharpest display. While the iPad 3's display renders
text with 264 dots per inch, even inexpensive printers can output 600 dots per inch. Most
tablet and computer displays are backlit and glossy. This makes them prone to washing out in
direct sunlight and prone to glare. The printed page, on the other hand, is easy to read in
anything but dark conditions.
Secure Delivery
Paper records can be anonymously delivered. Emailing a document creates a chain that shows
who sent it, when they sent it and to whom they sent it. Once someone prints out a document,
on the other hand, they can deliver it or not deliver it to anyone without creating a record of
the delivery. This can be useful if you need to send information without having someone
intercept it or without creating a record that you sent it.

8. Paper Output Tray Extension: Extend this according to the paper size to be printed.
9. Power Lamp: Indicates that the power is on/off and conditions of errors.
11. Resume/Cancel Button: Press this to resume printing after an error is resolved, or to
cancel printing in progress.
12. Sheet Feeder Lamp: When this lamp is lit, paper is fed from the sheet feeder.
13. Cassette Lamp: When this lamp is lit, paper is fed from the cassette.
14. Paper Feed Switch: Press to change the paper source between the sheet feeder and
cassette.
15. Direct Print Port: Connects the printer to a digital camera/digital video camera supporting
Canon Bubble Jet Direct or PictBridge to perform Direct Printing.
16. Cassette: Load paper to be used regularly here, and insert this into the printer. Multiple
sheets of paper can be loaded and fed automatically sheet by sheet.
