Week 6: Positive and negative role models

You will now have a good idea of what representation means for
media producers.
One argument is that the media will only portray a particular group
fairly once there are media producers from that community. So in
class this week we will also have looked some of the facts and figures
behind those who work in the industry.
Your task is to research a group in society which you think is under-
represented or poorly represented in the mainstream media.
Find examples of postive and negative role models from that social
group and present those on a series of Powerpoint slides on your
blog/website. Be ready to explain your slides in class.

An underated media product would be the new blade runner 2049, when I first went
to see the new blade runner I honestly thought it was going to be a mess, since I was such a
fan of the oringal, but the film was a huge surprise, and was really well made I though and
any one who was a fan of the the oringanl said the same, each scene had been thought out
carfuly and had so much meaning, just like the oringenal

You could also use this work as the basis for one of your blogs. The themes
are as follows:
Social/historical context; representation, equality and diversity; semiotics; political context;
production contexts.
