INTRODUCTION
1. Introductory sentence should be general and be your hook.
2. Briefly discuss all you plan to cover in your paper.
3. Lead into your thesis
4. Sentence 5 is your THESIS (point you are proving in paper)
a. LAST SENTENCE OF INTRODUCTION IS ALWAYS THE THESIS.
BODY
1. Sentence #1 in your body paragraph should be your topic sentence. Your topic sentence should be
arguableit SHOULD NOT summarize. An arguable topic sentence makes a bold and debatable
statement that helps support your thesis. You can use SWBS for this if needed.
2. Event: About 1-2 sentences of summary that describes the events in connection to your selected
evidence. This should introduce your support. When does it occur? Who does it involve?
3. Signal phrase: Who said what (Example: Macbeth said, or Golding stated, )
4. Textual Support: Example from the text described in detail.
5. Analysis: About 2-3 sentences of responding to what your evidence means and proves. Explain how it
connects to your topic sentence.
6. Transitional statement: Use important words and phrases from the 1st of your paragraph and
connect them to important words and phrases in the 2nd of your paragraph.
7. Event: About 1-2 sentences of summary that describes the events in connection to your selected
evidence. This should introduce your support. When does it occur? Who does it involve?
8. Signal phrase: Who said what (Example: Macbeth said, or Golding stated, )
