Lesson idea implementation: Students will have prior knowledge of Civil Rights Movement. Students will use
BrainPOP to investigate and explore various Civil Rights leaders; specifically Martin Luther King, Jr. Students
will gather information, which will be shared with the class. Students will be asked to collect at least two
pieces of information about Martin Luther King, Jr. that they would like to research more about. Next, students
will be grouped (3 people per group) with other classmates with similar interests.
Students will then begin their own research, first utilizing BrainPOP and then other approved search engines,

websites, and resources. As a class, we will make an All About Martin Luther King, Jr. PowerPoint where
students will contribute information they learned through their own exploration concisely stated on a slide.
Learners will be informally assessed by observation of research and formation of their slide. The teacher will
scaffold this research and slide making as necessary. Students will need to cite their sources.
