civil rights activities of Thurgood Marshall, Lyndon B. Johnson, Cesar Chavez, Rosa Parks, and Martin Luther
King, Jr

Lesson idea implementation:


As students come in, I will ask them if they know anything about the Civil Rights Movements in the United
States. They will name important people, events, and legislation they have heard of, and I will supply them
with any additional topics they leave out. With our compiled list, I will ask them to research important
information about each person and topic and organize their findings into an Inspiration page. They may
create a diagram, an outline, or a concept map. They will inlude dates, interesting facts, important figures,
and the outcomes or achievements of each topic.
After organizing their findings, students will get into groups of four and share their information with one
another. They will decide through what medium they will present inimove, a new inspiration document,
word processor, PowerPoint, etc. They will post their group work on the classroom blog for other group
members to view. The variety of visual presentations will give different types of learners equal opportunities
to understand the information.
