1 Overview
After the manufacture mode is enabled on a HUAWEI Honor 7i to connect to the GENEX
Probe, the RNDIS network adapter is unavailable. As a result, the USB tethering cannot be
used during tests. The RAS dial speed is about 40 Mbit/s.
If the RAS dial speed is not considered, the mobile phones whose models are as follows can
be used for tests:
ATH-AL00, ATH-UL01, and ATH-UL06
If the mobile phone versions are as follows, the USB tethering can be used, the RNDIS
network adapter can be enabled through configurations, and these phones can be connected to
the GENEX Probe:
ATH-AL00C00B140 or later
ATH- UL01C432B150
ATH-UL06C469B130
You can touch Setting > About Phone > Build number to view the mobile phone version
number.

2.2 Installing a Driver

Method 1: Install it directly.
Step 1 Use a USB cable to connect the Athena terminal to PC.
Step 2 Double-click Install package.rar provided in section 2.1"Preparations." Double-click
DriverSetup.exe in the decompressed package to install the driver.
Step 3 Open Install.log in the compressed package and view the last line to check whether the
installation is successful.
If the last line is as follows, the installation is successful.

Method 2: Use the HiSuite to install it.

Step 1 Use a USB cable to connect the Athena terminal to PC.
Step 2 Double-click My Computer, and double-click the mapped HiSuite disk.
The driver is automatically installed during the HiSuite installation.
Note that the HiSuite must be uninstalled after the driver is installed. Otherwise, the terminal
connection and subsequent test will be affected.

2.3 Setting the Terminal

2.3.1 Setting the NCK_DIAGUNLOCK Unlock Code
Step 3 Dial *#*#2846579#*#* on the keypad.
The ProjectMenu screen is displayed.
Step 4 Touch Background Settings. On the displayed screen, touch Background Debug.
The Background Debug dialog box is displayed.
Step 5 Select Open.
The Input Password dialog box is displayed.
Skip this step if Open has been selected for Background Debug.
Step 6 Enter the unlock code, and click OK.

The terminal will be restarted.
For details about how to apply for a background unlock code, see section 2.1"Preparations."

2.3.2 Setting the USB Port Mode

Step 7 Dial *#*#2846579#*#* on the keypad.
The ProjectMenu screen is displayed.
Step 8 Touch Background Settings > USB Port Settings. On the displayed screen, select
Manufacture Mode.

2.3.3 Enabling the USB Debugging Function

Step 9 Touch Settings. On the displayed screen, select All on the top. Check whether Developer
options is available.
If it is available, select Developer options. The Developer options screen is displayed.
If it is unavailable, select About phone. On the displayed screen, touch Build number
multiple times until "Developer Mode has turned on." is displayed. Then, return to the
previous screen and touch Developer options.
Step 10 On the displayed Developer options screen, enable USB debugging.

If the Allow USB debugging dialog box is displayed, select Always allow from this
computer and click OK.
When you perform operations provided in section 2.4"(Optional) Enabling the RNDIS
Network Adapter," select Always allow from this computer if the Allow USB debugging
dialog box is displayed. If it is not selected, the script execution will fail.

2.4 (Optional) Enabling the RNDIS Network Adapter
Perform operations provided in this section to enable the RNDIS network adapter in the
manufacture mode, enable USB tethering during Probe connection, and resolve the limited
RAS dialing speed problem. Skip this section if the data service test is not required or the
live-network throughput is less than 40 Mbit/s.
2.4.1 Installing the ADB Test Environment

Step 11 Ensure that the steps in section 2.3have been performed.
Step 12 Decompress adb_tools.zip provided in section 2.1"Preparations."
Step 13 Double-click adb_install.bat.
If the following information is displayed, the program is successfully executed.

Step 14 Double-click adb_check.bat and check the ADB test environment.

If "shell@HW+devicename:/$" is displayed at the end of the script running window, the ADB
environment is running properly, and the terminal is well connected. Note that if the Allow
USB debugging dialog box is displayed, select Always allow from this computer, and click
OK.
Ignore the error message "SogouPhoneService.exe not found" and pay attention to other error
messages in this window.
If the following error messages are displayed, ensure that you have correctly performed the
steps in sections 2.3.2and 2.3.3"device offline", "device not found", or "error: device
unauthorized. Please check the confirmation dialog on your device."

2.4.2 Rooting the Terminal
Before performing the steps in this section, ensure that the version of the mobile phone is
consistent with that of the root package because the inconsistency will result in phone
powered-on failure. If they are inconsistent, contact the DPM to obtain the correct root
package.
Step 15 Ensure that the ADB test environment has been installed properly.
Step 16 Decompress the root package used to enable USB tethering in one-click mode, and run
02.root.bat.

2.4.3 Setting the RNDIS Port of a Terminal

If the root package used to enable USB tethering in one-click mode contains the build.prop
script, run the script to set the port automatically. If this script is unavailable, manually set the
RNDIS port.
Method 1: Automatically set it.
Step 17 Ensure that the terminal has been rooted successfully and the ADB environment has been
properly installed.

Step 18 Run 03.push_build_prop.bat to import the RNDIS port configuration.

Method 2: Manually set it.

Step 1 Ensure that the terminal has been rooted successfully and the ADB environment has been
properly installed.
Step 2 Enter cmd to open the command line interface. Enter the command adb pull
system/build.prop d:\.
If a data rate is displayed, the operation is successful.

Step 3 Open the build.prop file in the D:\ directory. Search for the field ro.config.hw_channel_info.
Change its value to 1,0,460,1,1, and add the attribute ro.config.persist_usb_tethering=true
before the field ro.config.hw_USB_on_enable_FD=true, as shown in the following figures.
Step 4 Run the following ADB commands one by one to replace the file in the terminal system with
the modified one:
adb remount
adb push D:\build.prop /system/
adb shell chmod 644 /system/build.prop

2.4.4 Performing Configurations to Make Settings Take Effect

Step 5 After performing steps provided in section 2.4.3choose Settings > Developer options, and
disable Developer options.
Step 6 Enable USB tethering, choose Settings > More > Tethering portable hotspot > USB
tethering, and set the USB port to the manufacture mode. Choose Settings > Advanced
settings > Backup & reset > Factory date reset > Reset phone to restore factory settings.
Step 7 Set the USB port to the manufacture mode, enable USB tethering, set the USB port to the
Google mode, and restart the terminal.
After the setting is complete, the Modems port and Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing
Device network adapter are displayed in the Device Manager window, as shown in the
following figure.
If the Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device port of the terminal on which the RNDIS
network adapter and USB tethering have been enabled is unavailable, see section 4.4"FAQ-
04."

3 Performing the Test
3.1 (Optional) Installing the APK

When the forcing function of the terminal is required, install the APK provided in section
2.1"Preparations."
Step 8 Copy the APK to the terminal.
Step 9 Install the APK.

3.2 Connecting the Terminal to the GENEX Probe

Step 10 Start the GENEX Probe software and connect it to the terminal. Choose Configuration >
> Device Configure, as shown in the following figure.
Step 11 In the displayed Device Configure window, click Add.

The Add Device dialog box is displayed.

Step 12 Configure parameters. Set Type to MS, Model to HUAWEI Athena, and select the default
value from the Modem port drop-down list. If no default value is available, reinstall the
driver or set the terminal. Set Com port to a required value (for details about how to query
the Com port, see the next step). After the configuration is complete, click OK.
Step 13 Right-click My Computer and choose Computer Management from the shortcut menu. In
the Computer Management window, click Device Manager and obtain the port number of
the preceding port.

Step 14 (Optional) Click in the Device Configure window to automatically search for terminals,
as shown in the following figure.
Step 15 After configuring the parameters, click the connection icon .

If Connected is displayed, the GENEX Probe has been correctly connected to the mobile
phone.

3.3 Setting the Internet Access Mode

3.3.1 Setting the RAS Dial-up Internet Access Mode
Step 16 Disable data services on the terminal.
Step 17 Before performing data service tests, configure the dial-up access mode.

3.3.2 Setting USB Tethering
The USB tethering can be enabled only on the terminal whose RNDIS network adapter is
enabled. Ensure that data services are enabled before tests.
In the test plan, configure the FTP and ping data services and do not set the dial-up item.
Step 18 Set Dial Up Type to Share by USB, and Network Card to Remote NDIS based Internet
Sharing Device.

Question
What do I do if the dial-up test plan fails to be executed?
Answer
Configure the correct APN for the dial-up.

Question
What do I do if the RNDIS port is still unavailable after performing steps in section
2.4.4"Performing Configurations to Make Settings Take Effect?"
Answer
This problem occurs because the manual configurations do not take effect when the terminal
is being rooted, Repeat steps in sections 2.4.3and 2.4.4until the RNDIS port is available.
4.3 FAQ-03
Question
What do I do if the Probe fails to be reconnected to the terminal after the RNDIS feature is
used and USB tethering is disabled through UI?

Answer
All ports are unavailable in the Windows device manager. As a result, the Probe connection
fails. The reason is as follows: USB tethering is forcibly enabled by setting system attributes
during the version update. Disabling USB tethering (on the UI) during the use of the RNDIS
results in the disabling of all ports. In this case, set the port mode to Google mode and restart
the mobile phone to resolve this problem. Do not use the UI to disable USB tethering during
the use of the RNDIS feature, unless otherwise specified. The purpose is to avoid unknown
errors.
4.4 FAQ-04
Question
For the terminal on which the RNDIS network adapter has been enabled, what do I do if the
terminal ports are unavailable?
Answer
Step 19 Choose Settings > Developer options, and disable Developer options.
Restarting the terminal in the manufacture mode automatically enables Developer options.
Therefore, Developer options must be manually disabled every time the terminal is restated
in the manufacture mode.
Step 20 Enable USB tethering in the manufacture mode, switch to the Google mode, and restart the
terminal.
Step 21 Ensure that the following ports are available in the Device Manager window:
[COM&LPT] DBAdapter Reserved Interface
[Modem] Android Adapter Modem
[Network] Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
Repeat Step 19 to Step 20 every time the terminal is restated in the manufacture mode.

4.5 FAQ-05
Question
What do I do if simultaneous network access fails when the Probe is connected to multiple
terminals?

Answer
Step 22 Check whether the local network adapter and firewall are disabled. If they are in enabled
state, disable them.
Step 23 The displayed network connection status indicates that the network cable is removed. In this
case, check whether the NDIS port and modem port are available and whether the Probe is
correctly connected to the terminal. If no exception occurs, switch the Google mode to the
manufacture mode, and switch back to the Google mode. In the problem still persists, restart
the terminal in Google mode.
Step 24 If an IP address that is the same as the obtained dynamic IP address exists on the subnet,
manually change the obtained IP address to a different one for simultaneous network access.
Command for viewing the IP address:
Enter cmd.
Run ipconfig /all.

If the same IP address exists, change the obtained IP address to a different one on the subnet.
If the obtained dynamic IP address is different and network access still fails, check whether
Mobile data of the terminal is enabled. If it is in disabled state, enable it.

Answer
Add adb pull system/build.prop d:\ to adb_check.bat.

What do I do if adb_check.bat fails to be executed after the terminal has been set
successfully?
Answer
Restore the factory settings for the terminal, and then perform the operations again.
