MODULE TITLE Hydrogeology CREDIT VALUE 15

MODULE CODE CSMM137 MODULE CONVENER Unknown

DURATION: TERM 1 2 3
DURATION: WEEKS 3

Number of Students Taking Module (anticipated) 30

DESCRIPTION - summary of the module content

Groundwater is important as a resource but also as an environmental contamination pathway; it also has an impact on engineering and mining projects. The
Hydrogeology module covers all these aspects and provides a detailed practical introduction to groundwater and how it can be investigated and modelled.

Prerequisite module: CSM1027 or equivalent

AIMS - intentions of the module
A comprehensive introduction to hydrogeology, introducing basic concepts and principles, derivation and application of mathematical models and applications of
hydrogeological investigations, interpretation, assessment and problem solving.
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES (ILOs) (see assessment section below for how ILOs will be assessed)
On successful completion of this module, you should be able to:

Module Specific Skills and Knowledge:

1 understand the basic principles and concepts applied in hydrogeology;

2 apply hydrogeological assessment techniques;

3 use analytical and numerical models for hydrogeological quantification and problem solving;
4 design, plan, conduct and interpret hydrogeological investigations;

5 show awareness of the implications of actions on the water environment and foresee, avoid and remedy engineering problems associated with adverse
groundwater conditions.

Discipline Specific Skills and Knowledge:

6 analyse engineering and environmental problems and situations;

7 conduct calculations correctly and neatly, and comment on whether the answers make sense.

Personal and Key Transferable/ Employment Skills and Knowledge:

8 demonstrate learning, problem solving, data-handling, applied mathematics and reporting skills.
