2017-18 Professional Practice Technology SMART Goal

By June 2018, further integrate technology into teaching and learning through the use of instruction
and assessment strategies that use technology as a means to communicate, collaborate, and/or
innovate. A different technology-supported strategy will be used each month (October - May), allowing
the integration of eight technology enhanced strategies over the course of the 2016-17 school year.

Select one item below for each month. Choose the date by which you would like to implement the
strategy. Click on the links provided to view a tutorial on each topic. Feel free to suggest other ways to
integrate technology beyond the list below. Remember - You have the freedom to be creative. You
are not limited to the items on this list. You may also decide that some of these action steps
will take multiple months. Feel free to customize your goal!

Communicate:
Use AirPlay/Apple TV as a way for students to share their work (individual or collaborative)
with the class.
Establish a student-completed classroom blog in which each student is asked to write a single
blog post as part of their classroom/homework assignment for the month.
Implement Google Classroom as a way of assigning work, collecting work, communicating with
students, and providing feedback on student learning.
Use a digital tool such as Goobric/Doctopus, Kaizena, or comments in a Google Doc to
provide timely and meaningful feedback to students on their learning.
Create an iMovie or videocast as a way of sharing key information about your class or
assignments.
Post digital copies of student work on your classroom website as a way of sharing classroom
activities and exemplars with parents.
Create quarterly videocasts, digital newsletters, blogs or presentations as a way of
communicating with parents.
 Contribute as a guest blogger on NipmucPrincipal.com, sharing your thoughts about
technology integration.
Share a lesson/class activity through the use of Periscope, allowing parents/community
members a real-time view into teaching and learning in your classroom.
Integrate/Embed your calendar from Google Classroom into your class website, making your
website an up-to-date resource for students and parents.

Collaborate:
Participate in professional development (departmental/small group/one-to-one) with the
director of educational technology to obtain training on how to implement technology into
teaching and learning.
Start a Twitter account, follow ten educators, retweet or post on a weekly (or more! Basis.
Collaborate with colleagues within and beyond your own school through monthly digital
conversations on The Inspired Learning Project.
Participate in an edchat through Twitter by answering questions, following other educators,
and identifying a resource/strategy to use in your professional work.
Participate in #ThinkTankED by answering questions, following other educators, and
identifying a resource/strategy to use in your professional work.
Conduct collaborative notetaking through Google Docs or Padlet in which one (or several)
students are assigned to take notes for the entire class. As part of the collaborative note
taking, students who are assigned this task will share their work through use of A irPlay/Apple
TV and the class will collaboratively review/revise the work.
Assign students a collaborative paper/presentation/activity in which they use G oogle Docs,
Google Slides, Prezi, or other tools that allows students to collaborate digitally in real time.
Assign students a peer editing assignment in which they u se Comments in Google Docs to
provide feedback to their peers.
Engage in a formal, professional conversation with a colleague in which you collaboratively
review an assignment using the SAMR model as a means of integrating technology.
Collaborate with the Director of Technology Integration in order to meaningfully integrate
technology into teaching and learning (lesson design, co-teaching, professional development,
etc).
Share a technology best practice at a faculty meeting.
Participate in the Community iFair sharing one of the ways that you integrate technology in
your classroom.
Get productive in planning your next department meeting or professional meeting by
scheduling through the use of Doodle.
Present your use of technology in teaching and learning as a panel presenter during a 1:1
technology open house.
Use Prism Scholars Lab as a way to conduct a collaborative review of text, document, or idea.
Develop and implement an interdisciplinary lesson plan, using digital tools like Google Docs or
Google Slides as a way to collaborate with your colleagues.
Replace a face-to-face meeting for your department, common planning time, or other
professional work with a digital meeting. You can move your meeting to the cloud through
the use of tools such as Google Docs, Todays Meet, or VersoApp.

Innovate:
Flip the classroom by providing students with an instructional/informational video that they
watch at home as a substitute for in-class instruction. The class time that is gained from
flipping the classroom will be used to provide personalized support or application of learning.
 Use a formative assessment tool such as Socrative, PollEverywhere.com, Google Forms,
Plickers, Kahoot, Quizlet Live, NearPod or GoFormative to gain feedback on student
understanding and use this information to adjust your teaching of a concept or topic.
Replace a traditional poster project with a digital portfolio through the use of a tool like P
adlet
that allows students to collaborate as they share images, text, videos, and more as a way to
show their learning.
Revise an already existing assignment by asking students to show their learning through the
use of Explain Everything. Explain Everything will be used as a way to substitute, augment,
modify, or redefine an already existing assignment.

modification, or redefinition in teaching and learning.
Invite a guest speaker to join your class virtually through tools such as FaceTime, Skype or
Zoom.
Use iBooks Author to create an interactive e-textbook with materials for your course. (c ould be
