This document outlines a 45-minute lesson plan to review solving linear equations through a game of Jeopardy. The lesson aims to meet the general learning outcome of representing algebraic expressions in multiple ways and the specific learning outcome of modeling and solving linear equations of various forms. Students will review these concepts by playing Jeopardy using an online resource and competing in teams. The teacher observed that students engaged in good discussions about solving the math problems and one unmotivated student became involved once a question targeted him specifically.

OUTCOMES FROM ALBERTA PROGRAM OF STUDIES General Learning Outcomes: Solving Equations (Chapter 10) o GLO: Represent algebraic expressions in multiple ways (Variables and Equations) Specific Learning Outcomes: Solving Equations (Chapter 10) o SLO: PR2. Model and solve problems concretely, pictorially and symbolically, using linear equations of the form: =
= , 0 + =
+ = , 0
( + ) = where a, b and c are integers. LEARNING RESOURCES CONSULTED Resource #1: https://www.playfactile.com/math8solvingequations MATERIALS AND SETUP Projector Whiteboard PROCEDURE 1. Review Jeopardy Split the class into two teams and play jeopardy: https://www.playfactile.com/math8solvingequations o Randomly select a team to go first o If the team gets the question right, they get the points, but if not, the other team can steal their points REFLECTION The students seemed to be excited about playing Jeopardy. They had some really good discussions about how to do the math, and overall, I think that it was a great activity. One student didnt seem motivated at all to try until he saw that I had made a question specifically for him. This pulled him into the game quickly!
