Time on the Water . . . . . . Bruce A. Kitowski, President

With the start of December comes the end of another fishing season and the wrap up of the events of the
chapter. It has been a good and productive year for us. We are sitting in a very comfortable position as we
head into the 2018 season. There are many things and plans in the working which should make for an exciting
venture.

As I have stated in previous newsletters, this will be my last year as your President of the chapter. It has
been a most interesting road trip, but one I wouldnt trade for anything. The last 14 years has given me the
opportunity to meet some wonderful people, and make some lifelong connections. I truly hope that I have met
most of your expectations as a leader of this outstanding organization. I want to thank everyone that has served
with me on the Board and the many volunteers that have made this chapter what it is today. We have a lot of
wonderful people coming onto the board this next year I hope that you will give them the support and courtesy
that you have given me. I look forward to many new ideas and changes in the chapter. Thank you for being
there when I needed you.

Merry Christmas to everyone and hope to see you at the Christmas party at our membership meeting

Bruce

FROM YOUR SECRETARY By: Sven Larsen

It's healthy for an organization to change things up from time to time. I will be stepping down from my
secretary/webmaster position this year and I'm sure that my successor will bring in a lot of new energy and new
ideas to the board of directors. The St. Cloud Chapter of Muskies Inc. has allowed me to meet some really fine
gentlemen who care about the outdoors, the waters and teaching our youth about our sport. I was brought into
this position in a most unusual way. My son Sam was elected to the board. From time to time I would fill in
for him as secretary and then when he left for college, I took over the position. It's hard to believe it's now been
5 years. I am really looking forward to continuing to come to the meetings as an active member and
participating in the youth activities and fund raisers. I treasure the friendships that I have developed and want to
continue those relationships. I want to especially thank Ken and Bruce for their friendship and support over the
years. These are two of the most dedicated individuals I have ever met. Their countless hours of dedication and
leadership have made our chapter what it is today. I want to wish them the best of luck in all of their future
endeavors and I am hoping from time to time, they will have a place at their table for me at the chapter
meetings. Their selfless dedication to our club has prevented them from getting out on the water as often as
they should. Here's to wishing you the time in your boats that you deserve and a couple of 50 inchers as well.

Thanks for the support all the members have given to the lure raffle. We'll have one again in December. Our
member of the month for November was Jacob Moren. He wasn't present so there are still three lures available
for the member of the month drawing.

Wishing you all a blessed holiday season and I look forward to seeing you at the December chapter meeting.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT. . . . . .By Nate Rose
In November, we had no new members or any dropped members. Up for renewal in December weve
got Tom Agnew. The easiest way to renew your membership is online. The website (muskiesinc.org) should
prompt you for renewal once your membership expires.
Spread the word and encourage anyone interested in muskie fishing/management to join our chapter, it
would be great to see our chapter grow.

CONTEST REPORT. . . . . .By Nate Rose

In November, we had 9 fish registered with Bryan Thompson catching the lunker of the month at 51,
congrats! Tom Ardolf added 7 fish with a nice string of fish caught late in the month. Nice work! Suckers and
jerkbaits were the ticket for them. Even though the sucker action is slowing down overall, they still fall for
them at times.

Youth Director By: Eric Kohn
It is the busy time of year again as we close out the end of the year and welcome the Holiday
Season. As we reflect on our past year, the memories that you have usually involve 2 things fishing and
friends. We remember the hours of conversation, the anticipation of the strike and the journey of each trip.
Make sure that you make an effort in the upcoming year to introduce others to this great sport of fishing. As
you read some of the political agendas of others to keep sportsmen off OUR natural resources we are going to
need strength in numbers to fight this battle. So enjoy this past years memories and prepare for next
year. Always try to take a kid fishing. Happy Holidays.
Save the date: Saturday May 5, 2018 Big Brother/Big Sisters outing at Rock Island Pond, Waite Park.

POLITICAL RESEARCH DIRECTOR REPORT . . . . . . By Aaron Meyer
Just a quick reminder from me this month on what we see coming for this winter/spring Legislative session.

There are increasing threats to our access to public resources. we've been seeing this coming, and fighting it for
years, but it's only getting worse, and the threats getting more imminent.

Wright County recently passed a program forcing anyone using public accesses on three area lakes to first go to
an OFFSITE check station. You will have to get inspected at their designated station, during designated times,
and get your boat tethered to your trailer, prior to launching in these lakes- EVERY TIME!

The Ottertail County Commissioners passed a resolution telling the DNR to STOP ALL MUSKIE STOCKING
in Ottertail County for at least 5 years, and until they can "prove that muskies aren't harming the fisheries."

These threats are being started, lead, and funded by private landowners, local lake associations, and the MN
COLA (coalition of lake associations) who want to keep you off of "their lakes."

Senator Ingebrigtsen has backed the anti-muskie groups for years, and has already threatened to write
legislation against muskie stocking in the upcoming session.

Minnesota is on the brink of going down the wrong side of a slippery slope. Supporters of these efforts may
think they are trying to somehow protect out water, but they are leading the way towards destroying the very
thing that makes MN great- access to public lands and waters for ALL OF US!

Does it really matter that this is the "Land of 10,000 Lakes" if only a select few get to enjoy it?
