PRESS RELEASE
For release on January 1, 2018
MARBLEHEAD, Mass. -- The entire city is invited to a party at Devereux Beach. Those who
are brave enough to take a dip in the icy waters of the Atlantic will help fundraise for Special
Olympics Massachusetts.
The two-hour event will take place on March 1, 2018 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM. The
first hour will consist of plunging (jumping) into the water at the beach. The after-party will
begin promptly at 11:30 in Marblehead High School. Money from the event allows Special
Olympics athletes to participate in training and competitions between 24 sports (free of charge).
The Polar Plunge (formerly known as the Passion Plunge) was established in 1999. The
event has raised $3 million dollars for Special Olympics athletes to this date. Residents of the
North Shore are encouraged to have fun and support a great cause at Devereux Beach in
Marblehead. Both participants and friendly supporters will have the opportunity to compete in
various fundraising activities before the after party.
Special Olympics holds a special place in the heart of Interscope Records CEO, John
Janick. A native of Marblehead, Janick has family members who have been given wonderful
opportunities by the Special Olympics program. Interscope Records will be providing
pump-up music for the plungers at Devereux beach, as well as at the after party and will be
donating money to support the 2018 athletic program.
