Emperor Claudius

. Introduction
A. Have you heard of the Roman Emperor Claudius, the man who was deemed cowardly and
easily persuaded, and he wasnt even born in Rome?
B. Although the fourth Roman Emperor Claudius had a reputation for being cowardly and easily
persuaded, he helped expand the Roman Empire through many victories in battle.

. Emperor Claudius
A. Emperor Claudius was always a very interesting person. When he was a kid, his family thought of
him ill.
B. He was found in the background not doing anything during the rule of Augustus and Caligula. After
Caligula died, Claudius was found very scared hiding behind a curtain.
C. Claudiuss associates were a big part in his time when he was ruling. Because of this, the middle
class thought his associates were lowering the dignity of the imperial power.

. Not only did emperor Claudius Help the empire through expanding it, he
helped it through government as well.

A. He reaffirmed the rights of the Jews of Alexandria to keep their religion and ethnarch, while
directing both parties to maintain the peace.
B. He issued to the world at large, Claudius reaffirmed the same privileges to the rest of the
Jews in the Roman Empire.
C. Claudius initiated a number of reforms of the Roman legal and administrative systems,
and he reestablished sound fiscal policies
. What did Emperor Claudius do to help make or break the
Roman Empire?

A. Claudius Was the 4th Roman Emperor along with an assistant to the throne by a man
named Agrippa 1, who he appointed king of Judea, restoring all the land his grandfather,
Herod, ruled.

B. Claudius the first also began the campaign that eventually led the conquest of Britain
and the Imperial Armies were successful in repelling the threatened German invasion

C. According to Suetonius, Claudius banished the jews from rome, but details are
obscure. Disputes between the Jews and members of the christian seect in Rome had
caused disturbances and Claudius apparently either banished certain Jews or prohibited
them from assembling, which led to the voluntary departure sometime between 41 and
50 c.e.

. Conclusion

Emperor Claudius was deemed a weak emperor for a reason. He was very cowardly. Although, he
did help the Roman Empire in a good way. He expanded the Empire borders and made it a bigger and
better empire .
