Zen Style
This style captures those that are intrigued by the power of
white and how a simple palette can demand such attention.
White is signified as an achromatic colour, a colour without
hue and this is why it is the core to most design influences.
This is about creating your own personal sanctuary, taking
a breath and clearing your mind.

TWENTY YEARS OUTBACK AND STILL GOING STRONG. The Prairie Hotel, located half way between Adelaide and
the Simpson Desert is owned by Ross Fargher, who said during recent filming at the property, I replaced the roof with
COLORBOND steel well over twenty years ago and the place still looks great. Wed have to agree! Its stories like this that
bring a smile to our research and innovation teams. Theyve been conducting real-world outdoor exposure testing and
accelerated laboratory testing to COLORBOND steel for almost fifty years. Indeed, as part of the assessment program,
there are over 12,000 panels on exposure across Australia, ranging from moderate to very severe marine environments, and
from tropical to industrial locations. This ongoing research, combined with our own scientists continually innovating in areas
such as metallic coating and paint technology, all help to ensure that COLORBOND steel is as strong as it is beautiful!

A WISE WOMAN (aka our deputy editor Elle) once said show me a persons wardrobe and Ill from approx. $178, Skandium.
show you their interior style. It certainly rings true for me. Just as my wardrobe has evolved, so
has my home. My 20s were about trying different looks, with varying degrees of success. A little NUDIE JEANS SWEDESE
bit of this, a little bit of that, including a few experiments with a Moroccan pouf Id rather forget.
These days Im no longer as susceptible to the cheap thrills of fast fashion as I once was.
OK, full disclosure: I love a bargain as much as the next person, but these days Im much more
likely to save up for special pieces that I know Ill cherish for years to come. Current savings
goal: a green leather Ligne Roset Togo sofa or the Percival Lafer chair on page 24.
Its this synergy between what we choose to wear and how we choose to live that led us to
theming this issue around fashion. This month, we step inside the homes of some ridiculously
stylish women like Karen Walker, Alice Etro and Amelia Mather, the creative director of fashion Nudie Jeans x Swedese Lamino easy
brand Tigerlily. And while their styles couldnt be more different, one thing their homes have in chair, from $4180, Fred International.

common is a distinctly personal aesthetic. And just like an amazing outfit, its the little nuances
in your space that reflect your personality that make the most vivid impressions. MATTEAU SWIM MAISON BALZAC

DISCOVER THE CALIFORNIAN BEAUTY BRAND THAT

DOESNT BELIEVE IN A FLAWLESS FINISH

LET IT SHINE
The Smith & Cult Nailed Lacquer
range includes (from left to right)
the outrageously named Bitter
Buddhist, Feed the Rich and
Subnormal, $32 each, Sephora.
text sarah tarca | photography kristina soljo | styling sandy dao

FINDING THE JOY IN IMPERFECTION isnt a beauty brands usual inspiration, but US cosmetic label
Smith & Cult has done just that and the result is tactile and stunning! Entering the market in 2014 with a
whopping 35-shade nail lacquer range, theyve since branched out into an exquisite make-up collection. One look
at the packaging of their polish, and its founders Jeanne Chavez and Dineh Mohajers philosophy is clear. [Dinehs]
vision was to create something imperfect but still beautiful, Jeanne says. The result? Luxe, oversized glass bottles
with a gap to show the bottle neck, capped with hand-dented gold lids. Dineh thought it would be interesting if
she banged them up, Jeanne says. Theres a uniqueness about it not being uniform. New shades are introduced
with new fashion seasons (the duo work with their fave designers to create matching hues). The polishes
are joined this month by the full colour collection as the brand launches in Sephora. Visit Sephora.com.au R

The Fremantle-born hairstylist and creator of the eponymous salon hair range has
an impressive clientele, including Natalie Portman, Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard.
Yet, when creating his flagship salon in a converted 17th century apartment in Paris

for his clientele that was important to David. Wanting a private space that people
couldnt look into, the apartment took him 18 months to find and is marked only by
a simple plaque at the entrance on rue Notre-Dame-des-Victoires.
Inside, youll find a menagerie of taxidermy, including an ostrich, cheetah and
peacocks, mixed with French vintage pieces and custom-made mirrors. David,
who decorated the salon describes the look as a cabinet des curiosits. But what Paris not on the cards?
You can still get a piece of Parisian style
makes the space special is more than well-placed art. My favourite aspects are the
with the David Mallett range of products,
light and energy, David says. Walking in, this is something you notice, but, of course, available online at David-mallett.com
walking out of the salon, swishing your chic French-girl hair is pretty good too. R and Libertineparfumerie.com.au

Shades of grey
A grey colour palette was
used throughout the space,
including a grey-hued stain on
the herringbone floorboards.

Almost everything in the stunning space is second-hand, collected

by David himself from the iconic Saint-Ouen flea market in the
north of Paris. My favourite piece has to be our salon mascot,
Babeth [the African ostrich], which I bought from Design et
Nature at 4 rue dAboukir, 75002 Paris.

Spot-on interiors
A stuffed leopard makes quite
a talking point in the salon. The
buildings grand facade gives almost
no hint at the glamorous interior.

INDIA MAHDAVI

MEET THE GO-TO DESIGNER FOR FASHION FIT-OUTS THAT ARE TRULY OUT OF THIS WORLD

AMONG ALL THE SERIOUS, MUTED PALETTES of the past few years, theres a bright, shiny beacon of playfulness:

1 India Mahdavi. The French architect and designers interiors are as unmistakable as they are Instagrammable. India
loves colour and isnt afraid to use it, filling her spaces with unexpected textures, shapes and a sense of sophisticated
fun. 2. Paris-based India was born in Tehran and spent her childhood in the US, Germany and France. This international
aesthetic is apparent in her style. Although each project is truly individual, they all carry the Mahdavi signature of colour
and texture. Her spaces are tactile you want to touch and feel everything and her choices of lush textiles, such as
velvet, reflect this. 3. Her innate elegance, sense of fun and understanding of space have also made India the go-to for
high-end fashion designers including Givenchy, Joseph and, more recently, Red Valentino where she created a plush
boudoir of pink velvet with mustard tones and curved shapes. But eclectic doesnt equate to cluttered her designs are
considered and minimal, using colour to bring lightness and happiness. And thats exactly what you feel in her spaces;
theyre places you want to shop in, get dressed in, have a wine in, or live in! 4. To add to her overflowing repertoire,
India also designs furniture and lighting, and her 70s-inspired curved Charlotte chairs feature in many of her projects. R

Soft curves India stamped her signature style on the Red

Valentino store in London with pink and white terrazzo, velvet
walls and gold details. Love the look? Steal it! All Indias best
tips are housed inside her book Home Chic: Decorating with
Style, Flammarion, $39.95, Myndinteriors.com.au

Keeping it together My aesthetic is very relaxed I live in beachwear most of the time so that flows into my home, Amelia says. I like it to be
comfortable. I have lots of linens and handwoven textures, frayed edges and worn-in pieces nothing is too proper or perfect. Line em up Shelving
created from recycled Oregon timber is lined with a display of Amelias travel finds, including pottery from Greece and family heirlooms. The painting of
flowers is by Rachel Castle. Good save Thomas restored a set of doors salvaged from a hospital to add a rustic element to the courtyard.

STEPPING INTO Amelia Mathers renovated Victorian workers cottage in Sydneys Alexandria, you immediately know youre
in the domain of a lady who lives and breathes the kind of relaxed, worldly style that can only belong to a true globetrotter.
WORLDLY VIEW As creative director of swimwear label Tigerlily, Amelia undertakes what she calls full immersion trips,
on which she gathers inspiration for her brands collections. Well go off the beaten path to learn about particular techniques
such as embroidery or crochet to get to the bottom of what started a particular aesthetic, she says. Then we come
up with something unique, so the clothes dont look like vintage pieces but adaptations. Were redefining them in a modern way.
BOWERBIRD STYLE Its no surprise then that Amelia has developed an eye for global style. In her home, shes combined
this with her creative directors touch to combine pieces from various cultures in a fresh way. So Turkish ottomans sidle up
against a rustic French-style table and hand-painted Mexican tiles line the risers on the stairs to her first-storey bedroom.
Shes also used Pandomo cement-look flooring to recreate the feel of the flooring she found and loved on a trip to Greece.
BUILDING IT UP When Amelia and her husband bought their home, it was in dire need of attention. It was in a terrible
state, she says. Being a builder, my husband found it quite appealing. So they held tight in their former home while they
waited on approval for their plans to create the two-storey, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home of their dreams. Thomas then
set to work, building the home over a year. While they knocked down most of the building, some of the homes materials were
repurposed. 120-year-old blackbutt floor joists were used in the kitchen and the original bricks were exposed at the front of the
house. We wanted it to feel homely while maintaining the integrity of the building, Amelia says. Mission accomplished. R

UCH LIKE WE TRY on an outfit
to see how it looks, so, too, do
we try on a home to see how it
feels. This is how New Zealand
fashion designer Karen Walker
bought her home in Ponsonby,
Auckland, seven years ago. I had a very clear list of 20
things on my wish list and this home ticked 19 of them.
But it was more than that sometimes you walk through
a home and you try it on in your head, and this one just felt
right. My husband and I viewed it at 10am, five minutes after
that we put in an offer and we owned it by 4pm, Karen says.
READY MADE The home is a workers cottage that was
built in 1893. Its like all the places around here Victorian
cottages at the front, and inside its Miele dishwashers and
modern extensions, Karen says. And that was perfect for
me. My brief was that I didnt want a project I just wanted
a beautiful home. I didnt want to be the saying Awesome!
Ill have that house with no floor and no kitchen! and then
spend the next two years making it liveable. So, with

some new lights and curtains, the place was good to go.
STYLE DUO Karen enlisted the help of her longtime
friend and collaborator Katie Lockhart to help furnish the
home and stuck to a less but better brief. We dont have
a lot of stuff, Karen says. I just surround myself with pieces
I love. And husband Mikhail is happy to go along with
things. Actually, were very in sync stylistically, she adds.
LIGHT AND SHADE The interior plays with elements
of light and dark, and features a mix of styles, from the
dramatic sitting room with green carpet, brown chesterfield
sofas and leopard-print tub chairs, to the light-filled dining
area with predominantly white furniture and woven-cane
pendant lights. The home was furnished all in one go when

HOME LIFE
FOR KAREN, A HOME ISNT JUST TO BE FILLED WITH PRETTY
OBJECTS, ITS A PLACE TO MAKE HAPPY MEMORIES
Centre point I literally never leave my neighbourhood. Thats probably the thing I love most about my home. Everything I need is accessible,
within a five-minute walk or bike ride. I like to think I live in a village rather than in the country or the city, and I think a lot of people have created that
kind of lifestyle now, too. Work/life balance I like to work from home when I can. Home and work are about a four-minute walk from one
another, which is nice. That was one of the reasons we bought the place. If I have a couple of hours between appointments during lunch, Ill walk
home, sit in the backyard and dip my feet in the pool while clearing emails for an hour. Bedtime stories The family day bed in our casual sitting
area is my favourite spot. When I come home from work and my daughter gives me a hug, we go straight to the day bed. Its great for three people
and you can all squeeze in there and read a book or have a cup of tea its the central hangout space. Its not designer, not a particularly important
piece of furniture, but its functional and part of the family.

TOP ROW FROM LEFT Home alone A single peony sits on Karens desk in a tall vase by Bruce and Estelle Martin of Kamaka Pottery. Washed up A vintage
Thonet No. 14 chair complements the free-standing bath. People watching Karen likes to spend time outside. I can sit on my front porch and just look
at the people walking by, she says. Well thumbed Vintage fashion magazines never go out of style. BOTTOM ROW FROM LEFT Light up A vintage egg
lamp in the bedroom was a market find. Relaxing retreat Karens favourite piece of furniture is the day bed that was designed by her friend Katie Lockhart.
First floor The original kauri wooden floorboards reference the history of the house. Shadow hunters Karen likes the contrast of light and dark in different
rooms. Weve got one sitting room where its much darker than the rest of the house, she says. We have intentionally darkened it up.

Entertain me With a home thats the Friday night destination for friends and family alike, an outdoor setting is a must. The table and benches are from Early Settler,
and the stone stool from Amalfi. Small touches, big effect I added the matt white Spanish tile splashback a few years ago, explains Kristin. It really opened
up the kitchen at a minimal cost. The copper pendant lights from Dunlin add beautiful soft lighting. Kristin loves the HAY bar stools because theyre easy to wipe down

WHEN YOU ASK KRISTIN RAWSON how life has changed since having children and leaving New York, its her handbag that gets
first mention: Ive switched my Cline for a neoprene State Of Escape tote that goes in the washing machine, she jokes. Yet its an apt
metaphor for the lifestyle change. After almost a decade styling for magazines like Teen Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, she fell pregnant
with her son and started longing for her family, the beach and the Aussie outdoors lifestyle. And thats exactly what she got in the
shape of a three-bedroom home in Sydneys Seaforth. While its far from the NYC life, the casual vibe of the Northern Beaches is in
Kristins DNA. My dad was a lifesaver and taught his children to surf at Freshwater Beach, she says. The beach was our playground.
ON HER NEW LOOK Inevitably, Kristins new life brought a total style change. In New York we all had Eames chairs because mid-
century furniture was available at the flea markets, Kristin says. Now my furniture is all about indoor/outdoor and child-friendly living.
With the ability to pull a room together as effortlessly as an outfit, studying interiors was a natural next step for Kristin. She describes
her aesthetic as laidback, clean and as minimal as you can be with two babes and a puppy. So whats the secret to blending
amazing interiors and children? Clever storage, throws (to cover stains) and white linens that can handle bleaching, she says.
HER FAVE SPOT AT HOME Despite her love of interiors, its the backyard that has captured Kristins heart: I love the freedom of
entertaining in my own backyard instead of going out. I fell in love with the indoor/outdoor living of this house straightaway, she says.
Plus, living on the Northern Beaches feels like being on holidays and thats a wonderful way to live. We couldnt agree more. R

TAKE YOUR CUES FROM THE STYLIST HERSELF WITH KRISTINS TOP DECORATING TIPS
Dont rush Create your interiors slowly. Make wish lists, Pinterest boards and mood boards of what you want to achieve.
Paint it The simplest way to update a space is with fresh paint. My poor painter is on speed dial either to patch up or to
apply a new colour somewhere. Create contrast I like natural wood tones mixed with strong textural and architectural
pieces. Go green Having greenery I can keep alive is a simple delight it has to be part of the hard-to-kill succulent family!

MOVING INTO A NEW SPACE, I ADVISE ALL MY CLIENTS, AND EVEN

REMIND MYSELF, TO LIVE IN
THE SPACE FIRST, THEN GRADUALLY FILL THE VOIDS WITH PIECE
S THAT HAVE BEEN ON YOUR
WISH LIST FOR A WHILE. INTERIORS PURCHASES ARE NOT ONES
YOU SHOULD RUSH INTO.

Oui, oui Aside from the stunning Ay Illuminate pendant light, Kristins favourite part of her bedroom
is the French bed linen a treat to herself that she rearranges weekly, swapping pieces out to create
new colour combinations. Bright start The kids beds are from Domayne, Kristin says. I bought
king singles so I can snuggle in too! Storage is key in kids rooms, we use the Oeuf bookcase for
daily-use objects. Theres also a beautiful wardrobe for hiding everything we dont want to see. A

Playing favourites Kristin loves the outdoor
living space near the pool, where the family likes
to hang out and eat Splices. The area houses
a beloved purchase, the Malua Lounge from
Eco Outdoor, which has weatherproof, washable
cushions. The recycled plastic rug (from Alfresco
Emporium) is ideal for outdoors and works well
with the coffee table from Emporium Avenue.

WHEN YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS travelling the world and styling the latest fashion trends, a bolt hole to calm
your senses is just the tonic you need. And thats exactly what Danish fashion darling Pernille Teisbk has
created with her Copenhagen apartment. Its a stylish yet serene haven, full of carefully curated pieces
that Pernille has picked up over the years. My work requires a lot of travelling, says Pernille, so its
important to me that my apartment is a homely place where I am surrounded by things that I love.
HIT REFRESH When Pernille moved into the 185-square-metre apartment, built in the early 1900s,
she made a few changes to bring it up to date. She painted the walls white, had the herringbone floors
sanded and varnished, moved a bedroom wall to create a walk-in wardrobe and gave the bathroom
a total makeover, combining modern fittings with timber and touches of brass for a vintage feel.
HAND IN HAND Fashion and interiors often go together, says Pernille. Personally, I go for the more
daring classics. With this in mind, she has furnished her apartment with a combination of luxe, edgy and
casual pieces. As a result, Danish design objects like the Arne Jacobsen Series 7 leather dining chairs
and marble dining table contrast against soft textures like linen, wool and fluffy sheepskins.
GOOD VIBRATIONS The way Pernille lives and feels is directly affected by the interior of her home, both
its decor and its aspect. The first thing I notice when I walk into a home is its energy it needs to be good,
she says. I love the great light in our flat. Even on a very dark day it seems like theres a special light in here.
The same can be said about the right outfit it can make you feel good on an otherwise dreary day. R

Even the most well-prepared plans can go awry and blow your timeline and budget. If you
dont have a second bathroom, be sure you can work around this for longer, if necessary

STORAGE, VENTILATION & LAYOUT

Add more storage With a lot of the vanity space taken up by
plumbing, consider secondary storage, such as wall niches in showers
for toiletries, widening dividing walls to fit built-in narrow shelves for
towels and toilet paper, or wall-hung cabinetry above the door.
Clever essentials A ceiling light/fan/heater is a great alternative to
under-floor heating you can add wall lamps for the pretty factor. Move
electrical outlets away from the water try up high behind a door or
in a cabinet. Hooks will give you more space for towels than rails will.
Also, choosing a narrower door might give you the room you need.
Change the layout If budget allows, move utilities around for better
flow and function. Place showers and baths furthest from the door;
toilets and vanities closest to it (but avoid the toilet being the first
thing you see when entering the room). Recessed sliding doors
create more space, while a window in a shower can be waterproofed
and tiled around if youre struggling to work around it.
The perfect fit Be careful with tiny gaps between fittings you need
your hand to fit between something to clean it. Place toilets next to
a wall so the toilet-paper holder is in easy reach, and allow clearance
of at least 60cm in front of the toilet and about 20cm on either side.
A vanity needs at least 70cm for you to walk past it. Be wary of
shower heads spraying water too far, of shower screens being too
narrow to contain water, or swinging into other fittings if it swivels.

THE TREND Its official! Terrazzo has made a comeback and we love it
for its ability to add lots of interest to a space. The latest terrazzo tiles use
large stone pieces for a look that makes an impact and introduces rich,

bathroom, the plain white toilet, bath and towel rail prevent it from feeling
too busy. The mirror on the side of the bath is a clever idea it maintains
the continuity of the terrazzo while also keeping the room interesting.

tile the floors and just half the walls), it will bring a small space to life.

Middle Eastern tiles that are set to be a big trend this year. Together with
recycled materials, they show that bathrooms, like living spaces, can
embrace warmth and patina. WHY IT WORKS Although there are many
textures in this bathroom (the white stone vanity, timber floors and walls
and the cement tiled and rendered shower), they're held together by
a shared palette of medium and dark-stained timber, grey and white.
The patterned tiles draw the eye, creating a focal point among the array
of textures. TRY IT IF Youre a lover of vintage pieces who isnt after
slick perfection but loves the thrill of finding unique items that have a story
to tell. SPLURGE ON A sculptural basin. SAVE ON Everything else!
The best bit about this look is that its achieved by repurposing second-
hand materials. Gumtree, eBay and auctions are your friends here. A

THE LOOK

ON THE GRID
Black and white is anything but basic when its as
chic as this! Sharp geometric shapes form the basis
of this look, combining simplicity and luxury
THE TREND A black and white bathroom is a fail-safe choice for a
sophisticated look. The latest monochrome bathrooms have an ultra-
contemporary yet elegant feel. WHY IT WORKS Even though the vanities
are black, they appear light because of their slim profile. The marble-look
shower screen is a clever addition; its organic pattern creates a welcome
contrast amidst all the straight lines. The small square tiles are on-trend
and lend the space a utilitarian feel that balances out the glamorous marble
and vanities. While the black ceiling is unexpected, it works well because
the ceiling is high. TRY IT IF You like to change your interiors often this
look can easily be updated with colourful accessories or even house plants.

ITS THE ULTIMATE interior style hack: inexpensive and mouldable, yet with the magical

It bags, each season theres a new set of covetable blooms that clamour for vase space.
So, whether youre stuck in a peony rut or are new to the flower game, Jai Winnell, the
co-owner and creative director of Hermetica Flowers and Poho Flowers in Sydney, is here
to talk us through making a style statement using the most beautiful blooms.

OUTSI DE

THE TR END: Just like the floral tea dresses that re-emerge every few seasons, roses are the ultimate classic bloom.
And while were now pairing our frocks with white sneakers (preferably Stan Smiths or Puma Baskethearts) to give them
a street edge, traditional roses are also getting a modern styling update. Florists everywhere are beginning to manually
open roses to create full impact in their arrangements, Jai says. This can be done gently with the thumb and forefinger and
doesnt affect the life of the bloom, he says. THE ST Y LING : Jai kept this arrangement tonal with a palette of muted
pastels, adding interest with the unexpected touch of a single red bloom for a pop of colour, then manually opening some
of the closed petals to add drama. This keeps it modern and adds an interesting feature to an otherwise traditional bunch. A

THE TREND: Rich, tactile fabrics and textures have been a staple for the past few seasons, with velvets and
brocades giving us an excuse to wear loungewear out of the house. The perfect floral companion for this opulent
aesthetic is the regal purple Phalaenopsis orchid (commonly called moth orchid). The richness of this arrangement
complements the current move toward darker woods, and the sculptural aspect of the flowers also make it a great
focal point for minimalist interiors. THE STYLING: Despite past floral trends dictating blooms be grouped in threes,
Jai says these rules are disappearing. Depending on the context, a duo of blooms can work beautifully, he says.
The orchid takes centre stage in this arrangement and is complemented by similar shapes in the ornamental foliage
of Caladium leaves (aka elephant ears) and a sculptural anthurium, which Jai says are a current favourite of his.

with Phalaenopsis orchid and anthurium

THE TR END: With old-school brands like Oroton, RM Williams and Levis making a firm fashion comeback,
its no surprise to see a common landscaping shrub the Hydrangea adorning the mantles of cool kids once more.
In a nod to the Pantone colour of the season (green), the fresh, yet muted shades create a sophisticated, decadent
look that works well as an accent colour against a monochromatic interior space of whites, blacks and metals.
THE STYLING: Using a grouped arrangement in a similar colourway, Jai chose blooms of different textures
to create visual interest. These elements create an impact and are long lasting, he says. In keeping with the single
colour style, this arrangement would also be perfect paired with a black or clear glass vessel in a structured shape. A

THE BLOOMS: Phalaenopsis

THE BAG: Leather bag, $115, COS.

THE TR END: Our obsession with all things white continues, but this season it gets a structured and textural twist.
With modern, sculptural shapes and the seemingly perpetual use of organic materials (like marble) in our homes,
orchids, with their delicate, refined shapes and textured petals are the perfect floral fit to accompany this space.
THE ST Y LING : Jai suggests sticking to only a few varieties of flowers (or just one) and trying to create an
interesting shape. A trick I use is to create a bird shape, he says. Using that rule here, he uses only orchids,
set off with some interestingly shaped foliage (the carnivorous pitcher plant) for a pairing that has an edgy look.
OUTSI DE

THE TR END: Just as clashing prints can take your outfit to a street style-worthy level, unexpected combinations
of flowers can turn an ordinary arrangement into something special. I love combining similar tones, playing with
texture and shapes, Jai says. Here, hes done it by combining classic roses with dried daisies and tropical anthurium.
Just like a leather jacket adds an edge to a pretty dress, this combo softens up dark woods and tough textiles like leather.
THE ST Y LING : Continuing with the contrast theme, the mixed arrangement is relaxed and effortless, the trick being
to play with varying stem lengths to make it appear unstructured. Jai says not to over think your arrangement too much,
there are no rules! he says. Just create one focal point to anchor the arrangement, and go from there. R

In harmony
Built on an existing plateau, the house
was designed to harmonise with the
environment. It has been positioned so
guests can enjoy the different views the
surrounding landscape has to offer.

IF YOU THINK THE GREEK ISLANDS are all about Contiki tours and table dancing, prepare to change your mind. Maison Kamari on
the island of Paros is a slice of minimalist luxury; an architecturally-designed retreat that owners Damien de Medeiros and Alexandra
Leroux created specifically to make you feel right at home. And while it shares the iconic whitewash buildings that make the Cyclades
so Instagrammable, the traditional curved shapes are replaced by sharp lines and its kitted out with plenty of modern amenities.
A FRESH TAKE The architecture by local Greek firm React Architects nods to traditional regional architecture while incorporating
the ethos that houses should complement the natural environment. And what an environment! Set on 400 square metres of land,
the house is in the Kamari region of Paros, fifteen minutes from the main port of Parikia. Designed to capture the best of every view,
its one part countryside retreat and one part seaside escape, depending which way you look.
SET UP FOR SUCCESS One of the genius design features of the space is that the three bedrooms are created for ultimate
privacy: there are no shared walls, and each has their own ensuite, so its ideal for groups. However, when the sun sets and its time
to crack open the assyrtiko, the communal spaces are where its at. The main terrace stairs lead directly to the pool where you can
paddle to the picturesque views of the valley, the sparkling Aegean and the island of Antiparos beyond. But if 360-degree views that A

bench seats, there are spectacular panoramic views from every angle, making that daily dips platter (yes, its a thing) that much tastier.
OUT AND ABOUT For those who like their holidays peppered with a bit of activity and a dose of adrenalin, Paros is renowned
for its water sports including kite and windsurfing. Further afield, the tiny island of Antiparos the same one that can be seen
from the rooftop is only a five-minute boat ride away if youre keen for some adventure involving stalactite-dotted caves.
SEE YOU THERE There are many reasons why Paros is nicknamed the Pearl of the Cyclades. From the famed light that makes
every photo look pro, to the incredible beaches, crystal water and bougainvillea-draped walls, you are unmistakably very, very far
from the daily grind; or perhaps, its simply a new place to call home, even if only for a short while. R
