z REPORTS CAN BE EXPORTED TO EXCEL AND FORMATED.
Power Flow Analysis

z Load flow study determines how the electrical

system will perform during normal and emergency
operating conditions, providing the information
needed to:
z Optimize circuit usage
z Develop practical voltage profiles
z Minimize kW and kVar losses
z Develop equipment specification guidelines
z Identify transformer tap settings
POWER FLOW ANALYSIS

z Gauss Seidel
z Newton Raphson
z Fast Decoupled
SHORT CIRCUIT STUDY

z The short-circuit study calculates the short-

circuit capacity at designated locations within
the power delivery infrastructure.
z This data may also be utilized to select
equipment ratings and may serve as the
basis for protective device coordination
study.
FAULT LEVEL

z Planning the future configuration of the

power system.
z Safeguarding the Equipment
z Introducing new Equipment to restrict the
fault current at critical locations in the
network.
z Used with Protective device co-ordination
FAULT SYSTEM ANALYSIS - CYME

z In the short circuit dialog box in Generator

Impedances always select subtransient
z Fault report can be generated as below
Summary on all buses
Detailed on all buses
Detailed on selected bus
Global report on selected bus
Sliding fault along a line
FAULT SYSTEM ANALYSIS - CYME

z IEC AND ANSI

a) LLL FAULT- Required at all situations
b) LG FAULT Earth fault coordination

b) Peak current
c) Breaking current at different time intervals
d) Steady state current Relay co-ordinaton
MOTOR STARTING STUDY

z Voltage profile at various points

z The following parameters are to be provided
z Name plate data of motor
z Equivalent circuit parameters : R & X of rotor and stator
z Induction motor Mechanical load data : a) moment of inertia of
the rotating parts b) Slip torque characteristics
z Results can be plotted in CYMVIEW
z Different options of the report like Time vs Voltage, Current,
Power Factor, Torque can be generated.

z Run load flow prior to motor start

MOTOR STARTING STUDY

z Voltage profile at various points

z Run load flow prior to motor start

Transient Stability

z Planning the future configuration of the

power system.
z Adding large individual items of Dynamic
equipment eg. Large Ind. Motor or gen.
z Modifying the main interconnections within
the system
a) Critical switching time of CBs
b) Starting V.D & run up performance of large
motors
TRANSIENT STABILITY ANALYSIS

System disturbances due to

z Fault at buses
z Starting of largest motor
z Stopping of motor etc.

z Run load flow prior to transient stability.

EDSA & CYME

EXCEPT TRANSIENT STABILITY
ANALYSIS ALL OTHER PACKAGES IN
CYME ARE AVAILABLE IN EDSA.
Protective Device Coordination

z Making modifications in the system like

replacing outdated equipment
z To identify local problem areas for the
selection of suitable devices eg. Relays,
fuses, C.Bs etc.
CYMTCC

z Checks the coordination of the system and

enables in fixing the setting points in relay

z RUN SHORT CIRCUIT STUDY PRIOR TO

RELAY CO-ORDINATION
FORMULA USED

z Moment of inertia = 0.04 x (kW)0.9 x (No of

Pole pairs)2.5 -as per IEC 34-12
z Torque in lb.ft = HP x 5250
rpm
z H = 2.31 x 10-10.(RPM)2.WR2
Machine MVA
Where Rotor WR2 = (Weight in lbs).(radius of gyration in feet)2
