REFLECTION PAPER DAY 3
As a part of the Business and Society Seminar, on Wednesday, November 15th 2017, my

classmates and I attended lectures at the Cayman Enterprise City, which was presented by Hilary

Cahill, DART Enterprises presented by Glenda McTaggart, and Tower Marketing presented by

Abby Hydes.

The lectures that we attended, where very enlightening. In particular, when we visited the

Tower Marketing, I got the opportunity to learn briefly about their company and what some of

their main focuses are. Ms. Hydes informed us that Tower Marketing is one of the largest and

leading communications agencies in Cayman. Also, their clients are many of Caymans most

iconic brands. Tower Marketing has developed websites, managed social media, coordinated

media relations efforts and the production or promotional collateral for their community clients.

They also organize some of Caymans largest fundraising and educational events. It was also

interesting to know that Tower Marketing organizes the Taste of Cayman which is Caymans

largest culinary event. They mentioned that they have been planning and promoting this event

since 2016. This event is known to be a community event with help of volunteers which will be

held in January 2018.

What I have learned about one of Tower Marketings main focus on community event

planning is related to the topic of Business and Society, as a part of having a business, it is

important that businesses practice Corporate Social Responsibility. It is a businesss

responsibility to give back to the community. The funds that are raised from the Taste of

Cayman event are given to a chosen charity every year.

This topic is related to my reading in the official text of the book, specifically under

Corporate Social Responsibility. Lawrence & Weber (2017), Corporate Social Responsibility

(CSR) means that a corporation should act in a way that enhances and its inhabitants and be held

accountable for any of its actions that affect people, their communities, and their environment

(p.48). Practicing CSR increases the overall reputation for the business.
