Experiment: Iodine Clock Name:

Concepts: Chemical Kinetics/Equilibrium

Pretest: What do you think Kinetics mean?

Now what do you think Chemical Kinetics mean?

What do you think Chemical Equilibrium?

Redefine: Now what is Chemical Kinetics?

What is Chemical Equilibrium?

What do these two things have to do with each other?

Experiment: While we are setting up the experiment, predict what will
happen and what is your reasoning. Also record any observations during the
experiment and explain why.

Reason:

Observe:

Explain:

Record the amounts of each material below (Hint: This has to do with the
reaction!)

Group A:
Instructions:
1. Take 1 vitamin C tablet and crush it up into 2 oz of water. Let it
dissolve before moving on.
2. Take a separate cup and pour 1 tsp of iodine and 2 oz of water,
and dissolve it. Add 1 tsp of hydrogen peroxide afterwards.
3. Combine the solutions and add 1 tbs of liquid starch.
4. Time this as you pour the mixture between cups twice and let it
sit. Record the time.
5. If there is time, try different combinations and see different
results!

Record your observations here!

What significance do you think the materials had?

Group B:
Instructions:
1. Take 2 vitamin C tablet and crush it up into 2 oz of water. Let it
dissolve before moving on.
2. Take a separate cup and pour 1 tsp of iodine and 2 oz of water,
and dissolve it. Add 2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide afterwards.
3. Combine the solutions and add 1 tbs of liquid starch.
4. Time this as you pour the mixture between cups twice and let it
sit.
5. If there is time, try different combinations and see different
results!
Record your observations here!

What significance do you think the materials had?

Explain: In your own words, try to explain the iodine experiment as best as
you can

didnt?
