WARMINSTER, Pa., Nov. 1The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County will host an
informational meeting for prospective volunteers. The nations largest volunteer mentoring
network wants to share its mission and inspire adults to join their program. The meeting will take
place Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon at 220 Main St. in Warminster.
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches an adult Big and a child Little to foster a meaningful
friendship over the course of a year. The Bucks County chapter is seeking 50 volunteers to make
a positive contribution to childrens lives in the community.
Volunteers at least 18 years of age are expected to spend time with their Little twice a month for
a one-year commitment. Additionally, they must complete the required background check and
application process. Volunteers and parents will be supported throughout the duration of their
match with regular check-ins from Big Brother Big Sisters staff.
Becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister gives volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in a
young persons life. Research shows that children who participate in the program are 52 percent
less likely to skip school and 46 percent less likely to engage in illegal drug use. Beyond these
tangible results, children showed more confidence and were better able to get along with their
families.
