Your Own Oil
Your Own Oil
Your Own Oil
This Parable of the 10 Virgins is only found here. This is speaking about being ready.
There is a minority that walk circumspect to make themselves ready for the Lord.
1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and
went out to meet the bridegroom.
2 Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
A virgin is one that has not been touched by man. Man’s ideals, Systems, Traditions,
Religion, concepts and precepts! “The new creature” .
Wise means the midriff or diaphragm, the parts of the heart, the mind. It speaks of
perception and judging.
3 Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
A lamp in those days was a stick with a bowl on the end and a wick. You fill it with oil and
that is how you keep in lit.
The lamp is often pictured in scripture and in literature as a symbol of the spirit of a person.
PROVERBS 20:27
The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.
They were filled with the spirit but they did not grow in the Lord. Just being saved was
enough for them.
4 but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
That means they took oil in their lamps and extra oil in vessels.
They were filled with the Lord in their spirits but,,,also their vessels (their
Bodies) were permeated by the spirit as well.
Transformation—now hold on to that we are going in that direction..
TRANFORMATION!
5 But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
There is something being built. There is something with substance on the inside of us
• And to whatever degree that's lacking,
• to whatever degree that's missing,
• that is the degree that I am missing the Kingdom
6 “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming;[a] go out to meet
him!’
Midnight means
• The time when work ceases
• It also means the time of death
They ALL heard the cry –This cry is appointed unto man…
The wick may be compared to the inner man, the soul and spirit, saturated with the oil, i.e.,
under the Spirit’s control. It is important to remember that the wick had to be trimmed, cut
back, or it would smoke and the light would dim more and more until, finally, it would go
out.
• The wise- knew and automatically trimmed from her life those things which hinder her
walk with the Lord. Though she slept and became careless “she fell down
• but she got up
• repented and
• got back on track
8 And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’
I am accountable to you…
• To make sure that you are not too lazy to gather and store oil
• To make sure that you do not burn your oil on selfish Pride
• Or fear,Or failure before God or Man
I have to make sure that you are not burning your oil on stupid or foolish, silly, wordly
personality things and not WANTING God’s will for your life.
9 But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go
rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in
with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
Shut is from the root word which means to shut up compassion so that it is like a thing
inaccessible to one, to be devoid of pity towards one.
(The AGE of Grace is closed)
11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’
Other means “the remaining”, “the rest”, with a certain distinction and contrast, the rest,
who are not of a specific class or number.
12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’
What is interesting is… the requirement wasn’t that the people at the door Know the Lord.
But……. that the Lord knows YOU!
13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour[b] in which the Son of Man is
coming.
