Introduction
The document should give you a quick overview how to view and process images of the new ALEXA Mini
recoding format MXF/ARRIRAW in ARC 3.4.0b3 and higher.

How to load MXF/ARRIRAW in ARC


- Open ARC and browse to MXF/ARRIRAW clips in File System window.
- Drag and drop clips into the Project Files window

Viewing MXF/ARRIRAW in ARC


- Go to VIEW room
- To load clips into viewer and click on one of the .mxf files in the Project Files window.
- To change the parameter for the image processing choose the Clip Settings and for aspect ratio and
resolution use the parameter from the Processing window.
- To load multiple clips into viewer create a New Sequence and drag and drop the wanted clips onto the
Sequence icon.

MXF/ARRIRAW formats

- The SUP 4.0 enables two sensor photo size recording formats:
16by9 2.8K (2880x1620 pixel)
Open Gate 3.4K (3424x2202 pixel)
- The Open Gate 3.4K format can be defined in camera for different aspect ratios:
Full Open Gate (3424x2202 pixel)
4:3 from Open Gate (2880x2160 pixel)
6:5 from Open Gate (2560x2145 pixel) should be used for 2.0 anamorphic 2.39 in 2K resolution
8:9 from Open Gate (1920x2160 pixel) should be used for 2.0 anamorphic to 1.78 in HD resolution

Color Management with ARRI Look Files 2 format (ALF-2)

- ARC 3.4.0.b3 is extended to support the new Look format ALF-2.


- In the MXF/ARRIRAW clips is always a Look embedded. e.g. ARRI 709 is the default Look for Rec709.
- After loading a clip into the viewer the button Video Rec709 and Look is blue and the image is displayed
in video with the embedded ALF-2 Look.
- To activate or deactivate an ALF-2 Look click on button Look.
- The target color space from the Look is displayed below the Video button. (Rec709, Rec2020, DCI P3;
DCI D60 and DCI D65)
- To see the image in Log C click on button Log C Wide Gamut.

QT quick render export
- To export a single clip as ProRes .mov file click on Quick Render Clip button.
- For the Quick Render the image processing is defined by the Viewer Clip Settings, the aspect ratio and
resolution are defined by the Viewer Processing parameters. The color space is defined from the viewer
color settings. (please see Color Management with ARRI Look Files 2)

Multiple clip export for dailies and VFX

- To export multiple clips as ProRes, DPX or OpenEXR files go to the Render room.
- Drag and drop the selected clips from the Project Files window into the Render Manager window.

- Go to Target #1 to define all parameter for the render process.


- For file format (DPX, OpenEXR, ProRes) the compression format and color space go to menu Format &
Color Space.

- The Color Space box defined the color space for all clips in the render queue. For instance ProRes dailies
should be rendered in Rec 709 no matter what is defined as target color space in the embedded ALF-2
Look.
- The target color space from the ALF-2 Look is not ignored when " prefer Look Master Color Space" is
selected.

- Play back speed for 16by9 2.8K in full screen mode 2


50 fps in native resolution (2880x1620 pixel)
60 fps in 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)

- Play back speed for OG 3.4K in full screen mode 2


30 fps in native resolution (3424x2202 pixel)
40 fps in 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)

- Render speed for 16by9 2.8K footage


18 fps for DPX native resolution (2880x1620 pixel)
24 fps for DPX 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)
14 fps for ProRes 422 native resolution (2880x1620 pixel)
18 fps for ProRes 422 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)
9 fps for OpenEXR native resolution (2880x1620 pixel)
19 fps for OpenEXR 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)

- Render speed for Open Gate 3.4K footage


11 fps for DPX native resolution (2880x1620 pixel)
20 fps for DPX 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)
9 fps for ProRes 422 native resolution (2880x1620 pixel)
16 fps for ProRes 422 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)

18 fps for OpenEXR 2K resolution (2048x1152 pixel)
