Geography Artifact and Reflection 2

My first artifact is my Atmospheric Hazard Map Set that shows climate zone changes and

patterns. The student learning outcome 2 is to demonstrate global literacy and awareness by

analysis and interpretation of the complex global patterns and processes of the atmosphere,

lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. I chose this as my first artifact because this is the first

time that I have ever been introduced to doing this type of work. Creating the map set was

relatively easy and fast to do. It was also fun creating them since it was my first time. However,

what took a while was trying to look for the patterns that the map showed. There is a ton of

things going on in the map sets, so looking for specific patterns was a little bit difficult. I used

online sources such as www.geology.com and www.noaa.gov to find my data for the map sets.

Interpreting the data that I found in the maps was hard to put into words for the description

portion. I am very bad with the memorization of the states, so when I tried to evaluate and

interpret the data of the map sets, I was confused at first. It was like I was looking at a map of the

50 states with no labels. I was able to develop a comprehensive analysis of the data by

extensively researching the hazards on google. I also have friends that are very into geography,

so I got a bit of help from them also. I questioned the viewpoints of experts by not being narrow

minded and looking at things in both peoples shoes. Having a wide perspective of things lets
you understand better and gives you a picture of what is actually happening. The technology that

I used to create my map set was a website called www.maps.ngdc.noaa.gov.
