Professional Goals for Practicum

Throughout my practicum, I plan to work on developing a positive learning environment where


students feel cared for and safe. By learning every students' name by the end of the first week,
they will feel important and recognized as individuals. Learning the rules of the school and
classroom by the end of the first week will lead to a structured environment where all students
know and feel comfortable with the way the classroom is run.

I want to learn how to include FNMI content in the execution of curriculum. This can be a
difficult objective to meet, as educators we are often not as knowledgeable as we should be
regarding FNMI people. Its important to integrate FNMI knowledge into the classroom to
ensure that we recognize Canadas FNMI heritage, and help make school a welcoming place for
FNMI peoples.

Return all graded assignments no later than 2 days after taking the assignments in. This will
help students understand want they achieved and what they need to improve. The 2-day
timeline is achievable because my practicum takes place in a first-grade classroom with only 4
students. It is crucial that my students receive very timely feedback because they are young and
learning the basic constituents of how to be successful students. Any delay in feedback may
result in lasting negative effects on the rest of their educational career (e.g., a student who has
trouble reading after completing the first grade will continue to have difficulty reading through
future grades, and will likely require more robust intervention).
