Small Writing Assignment 3: The

Exploratory Pitch A Mock Rhetorical


Situation
Due: September 25, 2017 by 11:59pm. 25pts or 2.5% of grade.

You are creating a real or fictional Rhetorical Situation. You are encouraged to draw on real life
experience for this assignment.

This assignment has two parts:

First, you will draft a mock Rhetorical Situation (200 words).


Second, you will analyze the conventions of the Rhetorical Situation (300 words). Think about
the activities we've done in class and ways in which they define the conventions of the Rhetorical
Situation. The Rhetorical Situation you develop is your choice, it does not need to match what we
did in class.

PRACTICAL DETAILS
Write up a mock Rhetorical Situation, then pitch its conventions.

Identify the speaker. What is your agenda? What genres would you typically write in?
Identify the audience. Who are you speaking to? What are specific expectations your audience
has of you and your writing? What is your angle
Identify the medium. What medium are you communicating through? Is it textual? Multimodal?
Identify the genre. What are the conventions of the genre you are communicating through? What
is the structure of the piece?
