World Health Environment Day 9-26-16
World Health Environment Day 9-26-16
Greetings!
Smoking, and the use of tobacco, is the primary cause of preventable illnesses and death. Six
million people are killed globally by using tobacco every year. Of this number 600,000 are killed
by second-hand smoke. There is clear evidence to link tobacco to cancer which includes but not
limited to the lungs, kidneys, larynx, head and neck, breast, bladder, esophagus, pancreas, and
stomach. Smoking is therefore a major public health and environmental health issue worldwide.
The International Federation of Environmental Health declared the theme, TOBACCO
CONTROL A response to the global pandemic in celebration in this years World Environmental
Health Day to be held on September 26, 2016.
In relation to our Municipal Ordinance No.2, CS 2014, an ordinance promoting 100% Smoke-free
environment, tobacco advertisement ban and access restriction of tobacco products in Rosario,
La Union and imposing penalties for violations thereof and for other purposes. May we
Strengthen this ordinance to strictly implement in our Locality so as to celebrate with the world
in World Health Environment Day and promote health for the betterment of the people of
Rosario.
In line with this celebration, may we request our Local Government employees to unite and
gather in a Tree Planting activity on September 26, 2016, Monday.
