What is Menu?
Menu means ‘Detail list’ in French. In a restaurant menu is presenting food and
beverage of the restaurant what it is offering. Menu is used as a method of marketing
and the way of promotion and communication with customers. It can also make
brand image. It represents restaurant’s concept, image, service quality and position.
Menu can be considered as a one of most important thing in restaurant operation.
Good Menu?
Tomo’s menu
Tomo izakaya is a Japanese restaurant and bar, located at Clark quay, and Marina
Bay. It offers various types of Japanese food such as Sushi, Sasimi, Onigiri and also
beverage like Sake, Japanese Soju, and Cocktail. I took a photo from tomo.
Usually menu has 4 different types. Appetizer, Side order and a la carte, Beverage
and Desserts. It is a first page of tomo’s menu. They put appetizer at the first page,
and secondly put Main dishes like sushi and sashimi, lastly put dessert and drinks.
What’s good?
Once I see the surface of TOMO’s menu, I feel Japan, friend, and friendship.
Because Tomodachi means friend in Japan, and also because of this Chinese
character. It is using 2 languages, Japanese and English, and it also has short
explanation with each foods. .It is located at the place popular to tourists so many
foreigner tourists visit this restaurant. Even foreigner tourist can not understand and
not very familiar to Japanese food, they still can understand well all foods.
TOMO’s menu uses so many stimulating and interesting food photos. Those photos
look so delicious and make customers to willing to eat. Every page has Japanese
photos and characters so customers can feel Japan when they look menu. It is very
suitable and also able to represent restaurant’s theme very well.
Menu needs to be easy to change because restaurant can create new food or add
new item. But tomo’s menu can’t be changed. The other side drink menu doesn’t
have any explanation for drink and in addition some drinks only be written in
Japanese so can not understand. If drink menu has English name and explanation it
will be much better. For example how strong this drink, how sweet this cocktail like
that.
Conclusion
Once customers choose a restaurant usually they look at the menu first. Good menu
can be very powerful promotional way and also can make a lot of customers. Thank
