Wireless Cloud Element Cabinet

Overview
The Alcatel-Lucent Wireless Cloud Element hardware consists of an indoor cabinet which
contains subracks, power distribution unit, PBAs, modules and cabling.
The cabinet is designed for buildings with a minimum ceiling height of 2.7 meters.
Cable entry to the cabinet can be from:
• The top
If the cabinet is mounted on a solid floor, overhead cable trays carry the cables to the
top of the cabinet.
• The bottom
PRELIMINARY

If the cabinet is mounted on a raised floor, cable ducts in the floor carry the cables to
the bottom of the cabinet.

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
The cabinet consists of a primary rack and an expansion rack depending on the
configuration. The racks are fitted with front and rear doors. When the doors are closed,
the equipment is EMI protected. The doors can be easily removed for maintenance.
The arrangement of the subracks in the rack takes into account the requirements for:
• Thermal cooling, achieved with forced-air cooling
• Minimization of floor space
• Ease of access for maintenance, from the front of the cabinets
• Future system expansion.
The Telecom Version of the cabinet is delivered. This cabinet is -48V DC powered and it
is based on the HP 36U Seismic Cabinet.
The following figure shows an example of Wireless Cloud Element using the 36U
Seismic Cabinet:

HP c7000 Blade System Up to 16 HP ProLiant BL460c The blade is designed to be power
Enclosure/Shelf G8 Server Blade efficient. It delivers compute power
and expanded memory that is suitable
for telecommunication applications.
Is used to provide the processing
power and the RAM memory of the
WCE.
2 HP 6125XLG Blade Switch Each switch provides sixteen 10Gb
backplane downlinks, four backplane
crosslinks, four 40G uplinks and eight
10G uplinks.
These switches are used to
interconnect the c7000's with the SAN
and the NHR (Next Hop Router) for
O&M and Telecom Traffic.
2 HP 6125G Blade Switch The switches are installed only in the
primary shelf in the lower c7000
enclosure.
Each switch provides sixteen internal 1
Gb downlinks, four external RJ45 (1
Gb) links, four external SFP (1 Gb),
two IRF at 10 Gb (IRF up to 10
devices), one internal 10 Gb cross-link
and one management console port.
These switches are used as aggregation
point for all the WCE OAM interfaces.
2 Onboard Administrator (OA) The OA provide shelf management. It
has 1Gbps ports which are used to
connect multiple shelves in an open
daisy chain. This allows a user to log
into a single OA and have log-in
access to all OAs in the chain. The tray
also contains a 1G switch which
connects the OAs of a given shelf to

Temperature and Humidity

NOTICE
ESD hazard
Electrostatic Danger
Electrostatics may cause minor shocks and/or damage to the equipment.
The relative humidity must be at least 20 % at manned sites or during maintenance
periods.
Cooling, EMI conditions and noise emission are respected only if the doors are closed
during operation.

For altitudes between sea level and 500 meters, the temperature must be between + 5°C
and + 40°C, within a relative humidity band of between 20 % to 80 %. The temperature
gradient must be less than 0.5°C per minute.

Atmospheric Pressure
For normal operation of the equipment, the atmospheric pressure must be between 65
kilopascals (kPa) and 120 kPa. Low pressure extremes must not be allowed to coincide
with upper temperature limits.
Note: An altitude of 3500 meters corresponds to a pressure of approximately 65.7
kPa.

Solar Radiation

CAUTION
Direct Solar Radiation
Exposure to direct solar radiation may result in damage to equipment due to overheating.
Ensure that equipment is not subject to direct sunlight.

You must respect these conditions. PRELIMINARY

Lighting
All optical signals, displays and labels are visible with an ambient light intensity of 800
lux.

Cooling
The Wireless Cloud Element equipment uses forced air cooling.

Green Compliance
The Wireless Cloud Element cabinet complies with the new European directives
concerning the environment:
• Wastes of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
The requirements for re-use and recycling capabilities are applicable to the complete
Wireless Cloud Element product line (not only for the cabinet).
• Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
