History of the Charro Days

Topic: The history of the Charro Days in Brownsville and H. Matamoros. A traditional event with a huge
impact in our modern society.

Specific Purpose: To explain or some information about the importance and significance of the Charro
Days tradition and other related events such as “Mr. Amigo Association becoming” a part of Charro Days
in 1967, honoring a Mexican citizen who contributes to friendly bi-national relations and Sombrero
Festival, a three-day Washington Park street party with popular rock, country and Tejano performers,
was added in 1986.

Thesis Statement: Beginning as a distraction to the Great Depression in 1937, the Charro Days is a
festival that usually has about 50,000 attendants each year. For that reason, this event not only
contributes to the economic and social regards, but also reinforces the shared Mexican heritage between
Brownsville and Matamoros.

I. Introduction

A. Last semester, I had the opportunity to travel to Europe and the fact that the Europeans
understands the Charro and Mariachi culture as an internationally icon of the Mexican culture
really surprised me. However, this people did not complete comprehend all the significance of
Mexican for and international border. They believed they always thought that the United States
of America was against Mexico as well as any connection to Hispanic heritage. (Attention Gather)

B. Importance of the Charro Days to preserve the Mexican culture. Understand value in comparison
with other cultures and countries

C. Festival such as Charro Days, Sombrero Festival, a three-day Washington Park street party with
popular rock, country and Tejano performers, was added in 1986.

shared Mexican heritage between Brownsville and Matamoros.

and an annual four-day celebration held in Brownsville, Texas, United States in cooperation with
Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The grito—a joyous Mexican shout—opens the festivities every year.
